Outline Planned Prosense Projects at ETF – Smart Running Track – Common Health Gateway – Health Hazard Monitoring Necessary Equipment and Future Use Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 2/20

SMART RUNNING TRACK Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 3/20

Smart Running Track Sport and Personal Fitness project Smart, competitive environment for runners who are able to join in at any time – ranking by # of calories spent, trim track exercises performed… Use of sensor nodes enable runners to review their body parameters Connecting such nodes in a sensor network enables a trained physician to supervise all runners at once Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 4/20

Smart Running Track: Hardware Mobile sensor nodes – one per runner Tracking stations – deployed along the running path Mobile phones – provide feedback to the runners Supervisor computer – used by a physician to monitor body parameters Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 5/20

Smart Running Track: Hardware (2) Mobile sensor nodes: measure heart rate, current running speed and acceleration, body temperature calculate calories, enable supervisor reaction Tracking stations: used to establish runners location w/o GPS their own location input manually Sensor network: sensor nodes disseminate sensed data all nodes have the most recent position and body params of all other sensor nodes Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 6/20

Smart Running Track: Software Different software developed for each of proposed hardware devices, to implement desired functionality SRT Track Server Application – running on the supervisor computer SRT Mobile Application – running on mobiles SRT Sensing/Forwarding Application – running on sensor nodes SRT Stub Application – temporary application to simulate input Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 7/20

Smart Running Track: Software (2) Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade SRT Mobile App : provides the “score list”, the “map view” and a “bio-screen view” so that the runners could know their positions and body parameters Developed in Java ME SRT Track Server App : used by physician to supervise runners and by an administrator to set up a race Developed in Java 8/20

COMMON HEALTH GATEWAY Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 9/20

Common Health Gateway: Intro Common Health Gateway: a software component which is to be used as a common infrastructure component Gateway to various Body Sensor Networks based on different protocols and platforms (SunSPOT/TinyOS, ZigBee/Bluetooth/…) Provides unique interface (based on XML) to the graphical user applications that need to access sensed data Such graphical applications could be located anywhere, as the service is to be accessed publicly through the Internet, with the option of privilege checking for confidential data. Common Health Gateway: Usage Scenario Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 12/20

HEALTH HAZARD MONITORING Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 13/20

Health Hazard Monitoring scenarios Interactive Street Sensing fixed sensor nodes gather the information on the state of the environment (e.g. CO levels) and transmit to interested parties (passers-by on the street) Mine Sensor Chat detect CO levels in a mine setting (many miners have died as a result of CO poisioning) different architecture b/c of difficult wireless communication in an underground setting Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 14/20

Interactive Street Sensing architecture Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 15/20

Interactive Street Sensing: Hardware and software Four different conceptual hardware devices: sensor nodes (SunSPOTs), mobile phones, base station (SunSPOT), a server computer Four different Java applications (mobile phones – J2ME; Sun SPOTs nodes and base station – Java API for Sun SPOTs; server application – J2SE) Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 16/20

NECESSARY EQUIPMENT Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 17/20

Necessary equipment Sensor nodes: – Sun SPOT – Intel SHIMMER – other TinyOS nodes (MicaZ, BtNode) Sensors: – Pulse oximetry – Temperature sensors – Blood pressure monitoring – Humidity sensors Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 18/20

Future use of equipment PhD students research work Undergraduate lab work … Prosense Research Infrastructure at ETF Belgrade 19/20
