Continuation Notices What are they Why do we need them and What will their effect be

What are they A notice to enable a licence condition to continue after the licences cease to exist on 24th July 2003

Why do we need them Licences cease on 24th July Some detailed aspects of the new regime may not be implemented fully on that date Some regulatory tools need to continue until replaced.

What SMP conditions Some conditions in the licences which relate to the Interconnection Directive in the fixed, mobile and leased lines market. Carrier pre-selection Conditions relating to one or two aspects of the Revised Voice Telephone Directive.

What will their effect be Operators (former licensees) will be required to comply with the continued condition Enforcement will still be available to the Director

What kinds of condition PRS condition (in all licences authorizing voice telephony) Hard wired conditions in the BT and Kingston licences Existing SMP conditions where the market review is not yet implemented

How will they be removed When the corresponding parts of the new regime are in place, the conditions will be removed Power for the Director to make Continuation notices includes a power to discontinue them
