MONITOR TRAINING 2011 FCAT / FCAT 2.0 and SAT-10 Administrations

Purpose of Monitoring  Ensure standardized testing across the district  Administer tests in a secure manner  Preserve the integrity of the tests  Safeguard the validity of the test results for schools and students 2

Pre-Monitoring and Test Session Monitoring Schedule Assessment ProgramPre-Monitoring Test Session Monitoring FCAT WritingFebruary 25 or 28 Grades 4, 8, and 10: March 1 – 3 FCAT Reading and Mathematics Retake March 25 – 29 Grades Adult: March 30 – April 7 FCAT / FCAT 2.0 Reading, Mathematics, and Science April 6 – 8 Grades 3 – 11: April 11 – 25 SAT-10 April 8 or 11 Grades 1 and 2: April 12 – 15 *Extended window for the Visually Impaired and Hospital/Homebound Program students only: FCAT Writing is March 1 - March 9, 2011; FCAT Reading and Mathematics Retake is March 23 – April 7, 2011; FCAT / FCAT 2.0 Reading, Mathematics, and Science is April 5 – 25, 2011; and SAT-10 is April 12 – 19,

Stanford Achievement Test - Tenth Edition (SAT-10)  All Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will test  Subtests to be administered:  District -wide: Reading Comprehension and Mathematics: Problem Solving  SAT-10 Untimed 4

Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT / FCAT 2.0)  FCAT vs. FCAT 2.0  Students will participate in the following assessments: FCAT 2.0 Reading  Grades 3 – 10 FCAT 2.0 Mathematics  Grades 3 – 8  No comprehensive Mathematics assessment for Grade 9 FCAT Mathematics Retake  Grade 10 FCAT Writing  Grades 4, 8, 10 FCAT Science  Grades 5, 8, 11 FCAT Reading Retake and/or Mathematics Retake  Retained Grade 10 and Grades 11-AD Short- and extended- response items have been removed from all assessments. 5

6 FCAT / FCAT 2.0 Updates Writing Writing prompt has been removed from the Writing Folder and printed on a Writing Prompt Sheet Packages of Writing Prompt Sheets may be opened on the evening before testing or on the day of testing, but NO EARLIER Used prompt sheets are still considered secure materials and must be collected after testing

FCAT / FCAT 2.0 Updates Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Retake  The FCAT Retake administration window is separate from the FCAT / FCAT 2.0 RMS test administration  Grade 10 FCAT Mathematics and FCAT Mathematics Retake will use the same test version  Multiple forms  Grades 3 – 10 Reading will be administered as two separate sessions, one session per day  No Grade 9 FCAT Mathematics offered this spring  FCAT Science  All elementary and middle schools will test Science on week two.  All high schools will test Science on day one, week one. 7

FCAT Updates Computer-Based Testing (CBT)  All high schools will participate in CBT for:  FCAT Grade 10 Mathematics  FCAT Mathematics Retake  Ten schools opted to participate in CBT for:  FCAT Retake Reading  Flexible scheduling within the district’s testing window has been approved by the state for computer- based testing only. 8

Monitoring Procedures, cont.  Test Session Monitoring  Randomly select a classroom to observe  Plan to remain in the test session for the full allotted time  Some students are allowed extended time. Be in place when testing begins, then exit unobtrusively after testing is well underway. 11

What To Observe: Preparations  Preparations for the Assessment  Visual cues must be covered or removed  Sufficient space between students  Student/test administrator ratio  Paper-based test (1:30)  Computer-based test (1:25)  Roster of students assigned to the room 13

What To Observe: Paper-Based Testing  During the Assessment (paper-based test)  All testing signs are posted.  Test materials must be handed to students individually.  Documentation of security numbers assigned to students. (No security numbers for FCAT Writing)  A record of attendance is maintained.  Test materials for absent students are kept in a secure area in the room.  Appropriate testing environment. 14

What To Observe: Computer- Based Testing  During the Assessment (computer-based test)  Visual-barriers are used.  Sufficient work space for Work Folders and Reading Passage Booklets  Student Authorization Tickets and test materials must be handed to students individually.  A record of attendance is maintained.  Tickets and test materials for absent students are kept in a secure area in the room.  Appropriate testing environment. 15

What To Observe: General  During the Assessment  The test schedule is followed with the allotted time.  The starting time and ending time is displayed on the board.  Electronic devices are not within arm’s reach.  Script is read verbatim.  Test administrators and proctors actively monitor testing. 16

What To Observe: Conclusion  Concluding the Assessment  Test materials are collected individually from students.  Students are not permitted to leave until all materials are collected and verified.  Test materials and documentation are immediately returned to the school assessment coordinator. 17

Reporting Irregularities  Any concern regarding a testing irregularity, breach of test security, or problem with secure testing materials must be reported immediately to Student Assessment and Educational Testing (SAET).  You should NOT “debrief” with school staff. 18
