Self-Inspection Program Participant Worksheets and Teacher Checklists By Steve Main School Program Technical Advisor Spokane Regional Health District

Original Self-Inspection Worksheets Checklist for a K-8 or K-12 school was 33 pages Every inspection and plan review related item in the 91 page K-12 Health and Safety Guide was included Some additional playground items were also included from the CPSC and ASTM standards Duplication in several sections of the checklist Some of the verbiage used in the checklist was confusing or not consistent with the K-12 Guide.

Updated Self-Inspection Worksheets Format changed to focus on risk based priority issues Length of K-8 and K-12 worksheets reduced to 19 pages The descriptions used on the worksheets have been clarified and reviewed for consistency with the K-12 Guide Self-Inspection participants expected to focus on priority areas using the new worksheets and take action to address those issues

New Classroom Self-Inspection Worksheet The original two page checklist significantly reduced Focus on general health and safety priorities in classrooms Technical references to electrical, lighting and plumbing requirements have been removed

New Playground Self-Inspection Worksheet Eight page worksheet reduced to two pages Focus is on playground issues that are more easily verified Self inspector will refer to the prior routine and re-inspection for the more complex playground safety related issues (e.g., entrapments, entanglements, protrusions) and provide SRHD the status for correction

New Laboratory/Science Self-Inspection Worksheet Item descriptions written to help the self inspector better understand the expectation Item descriptions written specifically for the laboratory and science environment Checklist layout designed to follow the normal progression of an inspection

New Career & Technical Education Self-Inspection Worksheet Performing Arts items are now included at the end of the CTE checklist to eliminate repetition Some technical references were simplified for ease of use (e.g., sound, lighting, electrical) Items that cannot be reasonably inspected by self inspector were removed from the worksheet Items grouped for ease of use
