Background 1. CMDHB Research Strategy 2009 Lack of incentives for researchers Lack of infrastructure, capability and facilities Perception that regulatory processes are highly bureaucratic; Lack of seed-funding to perform pilot studies and initiate research projects Low proportion of the workforce who want to do research Inadequate dedicated research time

Background 2. Innovation Fund Administered by CCRep since March 2008 Awards small-project Grants up to $10,000 for Applied Health Research Targets the 6 priority areas in the 5-year SDP. Funding rounds March & September each year with annual disbursement up to $90,000 Competitive and accessible to all CMDHB employees

Background 3. Innovation Fund All research projects require ethics approval Maximum duration is 12 months (i.e. June  July, or January  December) Use of funds include salaries, statistical analysis, consumables and other justifiable expenses. Equipment and travel requests will not be funded Final report (i.e. a poster, paper published in a scientific journal, or scientific report) required

Application form ( Attach STUDY PROTOCOL) 1. Title 2. Project Overview (summary) 3. Aims/significance (1-page) 4. Research Plan (3-pages) Methods & schedule of assessment, Statistics (  consult biostatistician) Outputs, translation, references 5. Budget 6. Ask yourself “Is it feasible?”

Budget 1. Personnel (FTE at usual hourly rate) Research is a part of our jobs at CMDHB CCRep will support special roles, key support Time for data analysis & report writing 2. Consumables 3. Professional services Statistics, transcription, qualitative analysis 4. Total must be <$10, Justification of budget

Review Process 1. Consult (e.g.. Clinical Head/colleagues) before submitting your application 2. CCRep will provide critical appraisal & an opportunity to revise the application to make it acceptable 3. CCRep will provide mentorship 4. Funds are available from CCRep on invoice 5. A final report is required
