Task TW5-SL53 7b Planning: 12 Months Review of the New Design of the Tritium Building and Detritiation Systems
Main function of tertiary containment is to prevent the spread of radioactivity from an area accidentally contaminated towards the nearby areas of the plant and towards the environment. Tertiary containment includes: Tritium buildings Building ventilation Atmosphere detritiation systems
Aim of the task: Evaluate the effectiveness of the actual design of tertiary containment Identify safety requirements for buildings and ventilation system
Safety Assessment of Building Containment Evaluation of the effectiveness of building layout and plant features (as air locks, HVAC isolation dampers, sealed penetrations etc.), to prevent and mitigate spread of tritium.
Detritiation Systems Safety Assessment: Analysis of: Accidents occurring on the detritiation systems leading to a possible spreading of contamination through the building areas. Reliability of detritiation system in case of fire. Wind effects on the efficiency of the detritiation system.
