Addiction Nicotine is in the same stimulant category as cocaine, methamphetamine, crack and speed. Your brain gets addicted to nicotine very quickly.

In less than 7 seconds: Nicotine is an addicting stimulant that reaches the brain within 7 seconds making the heart beat faster and the carbon monoxide in the smoke makes the blood vessels constrict which increases blood pressure.
