Power Pool Overview Pool set up in 1989, under the auspices of UMA (Union du Maghreb Arabe – Arab Maghreb Union) Main objective: to study and propose solutions to power utilities companies that are members, share best practises Key activities undertaken so far: Participation into ELTAM study (interconnection Egypt-Lybia-Tunisia-Algeria-Morocco) and signing of project implementation convention between the 5 countries Creation of the Maghreb Interconnection Commission, which studies, defines management conditions and coordinates cross-border power exchanges between Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, taking into account the Maghreb-Europe interconnection via Spain Participation, in year 2000, into the MEDRING study: joint management of the interconnected power loop amongst Mediterranean countries Participation in, and distribution of, annual statistics on power activity in Maghreb Next key activities planned: Implementation of ELTAM interconnection project Development of a Maghreb Power Market Preparation for reliable synchronous management of interconnected power systems of ELTAM countries
