RECRUITING STAFF “the process of locating and encouraging potential applicants to apply for a specific position of employment.” INTERNAL EXTERNAL

INTERNAL EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT RECRUITMENT Advantages Creates promotion opportunities within business and helps develop career pathways for individual employees Creates a greater pool of potential applicants Promotion creates improved morale for individual employees New employees bring new or fresh ideas into the business Recruitment is less expensive New employees can be used as a catalyst to bring about change in the business May result in increased individual commitment by employees The applicant is already familiar with organisational culture and procedures An external applicant is more likely to have the required skills and can step straight into the position with little training

INTERNAL EXTERNAL RECRUITMENT RECRUITMENT Disadvantages Poor attitudes and work habits from the past may continue in the new position Recruitment costs may be higher due to external advertising There is likely to be a limited number of potential applicants May impact negatively on existing employees Outside employees may not fit the culture of the business The person may turn out to be unsuitable for the position
