RAPPEL MASTER QUALIFICATONS MUST BE A NCO (CPL OR ABOVE) OR WARRANT OFFICER OR COMMISSIONED OFFICER AND A GRADUATE OF A RECOGNIZED RAPPEL MASTER COURSE

SAFETY REQUIRMENTS SAFETY IS THE FIRST CONSIDERATION SAFETY LINE OR SAFETY HARNESS FM COMMUNICATIONS (Mandatory for Tactical and Non-Tactical A/C Rappelling operations) TOWER RAPPELS: 10 ft OF ROPE ON THE GROUND AIRCRAFT RAPPELS: 20 ft OF ROPE ON THE GROUND

SAFETY REQUIRMENTS SLEEVES DOWN EYE & HEARING PROTECTION ID TAGS & ID CARD HELMET (chinstrap fastened) GLOVES W/ FRICTION BEARING SURFACE (with inserts as required) WEAPONS SLUNG ACROSS BACK, MUZZLE DOWN ON GUIDE HAND SIDE SECURE LOOSE CLOTHING, STRAPS & EQUIPMENT RAPPELLING UNIFORM

WARNING Service members will NOT wear a MILES harness during any rotary wing rappelling operations

SAFETY REQUIRMENTS NIGHT OPERATIONS- 1 CHEMLIGHT ATTACHED TO: ATTACHMENT POINT OF THE ROPE THE END OF THE ROPE THE RAPPELLER NO NVGs WORN BY RAPPELLERS RM MAY WEAR NVGs

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS LIGHTNING WITHIN ONE NAUTICAL MILE WINDS EXCEEDING 30 KNOTS (TO INCLUDE GUSTS) AMBIENT TEMPERATURE 30 F DEGREES OR BELOW WIND CHILL FACTORS WHICH COULD CAUSE COLD WEATHER INJURY (rotor wash, wind during flight) THE FOLLOWING WILL CANCEL RAPPELLING OPERATIONS:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS RAIN, SNOW, ICE ON THE ROPE INHIBITING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL DESCENT BROWN OUT WHICH CAUSES LOSS OF VISUAL CONTACT WITH GROUND ROPE EXPOSED TO ELEMENTS LONG ENOUGH TO FREEZE, THEREBY REDUCING ITS TENSILE STRENGTH THE FOLLOWING WILL CANCEL RAPPELLING OPERATIONS:

EMERGENCIES ROPES OR RAPPELLERS BECOME ENTANGLED AIRCRAFT ENGINE FAILURE POSSUM RAPPELLERS (Must check rappelers snap link) INVERTED OR OPEN SNAPLINK ( Must lower safety line to rappeller) FALLING RAPPELER CUT ROPES (Rappel Master is only person authorized to cut ropes)
