It was the month before my 7 th birthday and my parents had wanted to talk about what we would be doing for my birthday. They had decided that we would go to Hawaii for my birthday. My parents were so excited to be going somewhere more exotic than the park across the street. Me on the other hand was not as excited. I didn’t want to go because I couldn’t take my friends with me and I was going to miss them. My dad explained what we would be doing and how my friends would want me to go. But no matter what my dad said I still wasn’t so optimistic about it. So in the end as always, he won the argument. I was going wether I wanted to or not.

A month later we left for the airport and took off to start our Hawaiian adventure.

During the week, we had gone and traveled through what seems to be the whole island at the time. We had gone on guided hikes through trails on around the volcanoes and gone through above ground caves. We had also seen gorgeous cliffs and saw traditional Hawaiian hula dancing. All so far had been fun but I still missed San Diego and all my friends back at home.

The ocean mist hit my face as we glided and crashed though the waves of the ocean. It times it felt as though I was flying. We raced across the water for what felt like an hour till we reached out destination. Our destination was a place called Captain’s Cove. It was off the coast of the Hawaii’s main island. I had a lot of caves and whole in cliffs you could either swim into or climb up into. The cliffs we beautiful and looked as if someone had a huge cookie cutter and cut out a big whole in the sides of the cliffs.

I was so amazed at all the ocean life and community in such a small area. It made me wonder about how much life there is in the entire ocean if there’s this much life in such a small little area.

While I was swimming and exploring a world I have never before now had seen I saw one lone fish. He was orange and a purple-ish blue tail. He was hiding between two rocks. He looked at me and started to swim over to another group of fish. I followed. This cool amazing ocean made me forget about how much I missed my friends.

After an hour of snorkeling it was time to get back in the boat and go back to the hotel. On the boat ride back I could not stop talking about what I had seen. The sun was setting now and made the ocean so much more beautiful. As I stared at the distant land we were heading for my dad was going on and on about some big fish he had been chasing with a camera trying to catch a picture..

We stayed in Hawaii for another couple days then left for San Diego Airport. When we got home I was so excited to tell e friends what I had done and where i went. I had an amazing time despite how sad and scared I had been in the begging.
