All proceeds go to benefit the American Cancer Society, the nationwide health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer and diminishing suffering and death from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service.
Teams may begin arriving to set up their campsites at 4:00 p.m. at the fieldhouse, no later please! Be there by 5:30 p.m. as the Opening Ceremony begins at 6 p.m. What is a campsite? Prizes for best “Pirate, Island” themed campsite Schedule of Events:

Fight Back ceremony at 5:00 a.m. -Now that we’ve raised $176,000 in the fight against cancer, what can we do to fight back all year? - -Robert Fleishmann, cancer researcher -Can we achieve a smokefree campus at the U of M? - Our personal pledges to FIGHT BACK
Incorporate the theme in everything! -Organize fundraisers that utilize the theme – there will be prizes for the most creative, on-theme fundraiser! -Bring your best costume, because there is awards at the Relay For Life for best costume and more! - Makes the night and all entertainment and activities more fun! Dress up as a pirate, get out your Hawaiian skirts and your swimsuits …. because the THEME of the Relay For Life is ….
Other Activities: Fear Factor – think you’ve got what it takes? Basketball Tourney – look for the registration table to sign up individually or as a team! Burrito eating contest Mr. Relay Pageant – guys, strut your stuff and be crowned “Mr. Relay 2009” Comedy Sportz! Just out the schedule behind the stage throughout the night to stay informed!
The Dating Game – whoever knew you could find the lover of your dreams while fighting cancer? Magician, Hip Hop Instructor Bowling with Coconuts! Relay’s Best Dance Crew!

The Relay For Life is a CELEBRATION of the money you have raised for the American Cancer Society. Please try your best to raise your $100 individual fundraising minimum by April 17. Where are you at in achieving your goal? There already? Raise your goal to further help the American Cancer Society!
There’s only a week left! How can I do this quickly? Simple. - Send out s to family, friends, teachers, and coworkers via your personal page on Tell them your story of why you Relay. - Post a link on your Facebook status and personal page. - Sell 10 luminaria in honor or memory of someone. - Hold a last minute bake sale, party with a cover, date auction, penny war, etc. - Other ideas?
Another sure-fire way to supplement your fundraising goal… ONSITE FUNDRAISERS! Sell cancer-fighting t-shirts Face painting Picture back drops Caricatures Manicures, hair braiding, etc. Bake sale Crafts (picture frames, capes, pins) Food items: get food permits ASAP (available online at Hold mini activities (DDR, palm reading, Twister tourney) Wagon rides around the track
First ever silent Auction! We are looking for gifts/packages to give away. If you have a connection to a business, hotel, spa, etc we could use your help! Silent Auction will run from 6pm – right before the luminaria ceremony at 10pm.
Need some leverage with your advisers, residence hall directors, and professors? Invite them to the relay for life! Invitations available online at Why? Show them how active you are on campus! Use the opportunity to tell them why you Relay. Reach out to them to help you achieve your fundraising goal. Even if they don’t have a close tie to cancer, they have a close tie to you and the more than 1600 people at the U of M who attend.
