Implementation Expectations... Realize EQ’s, create mind map, become familiar with WebQuest, participate (ask relevant questions, offers own opinion, and volunteer their contributions to lesson, workshops, teacher/peers.), and build their final project—a well-written poem that reflect the Harlem Renaissance. Relevance…The purpose of this unit is for the students to learn the writing stages and how to write within them. This is relevant and valuable to them because it may be found on the GHSGT and EOC exams. Students can benefit from this unit as they may have to submit a writing sample with their college applications. Hook...The students will go back in time learn the Harlem Renaissance era. They are to adopt the style and language. All students have just been hired—by their teacher—as professional writers. They are to write a poem convincing me that their work in publish- worthy. Explore & Equip…The students will have access to Internet (laptop carts), references (book cart), Inspiration (mind maps), and the project-based WebQuest (tool need to complete project). Rethink, Reflect, Revise…Students will be issued a journal in the beginning of the lesson. They will use the journal to show evidence of their writing in all stages. This journal will serve as rethinking and reflecting tool. (Self ) Evaluation…students will be provided with a rubric. This tool will make them aware of their requirements and the teacher’s expectations. Students will also be given a unit test at the end of the unit.
