The First Insulin Tests(Dog) n The first insulin test was on a diabetic dog. n The insulin was extracted out of its pancreas. n The test was successful

Diabetes n Causes an imbalance of insulin n Outcomes of diabetes: weight loss, high blood pressure, and blindness.

First Insulin Test (on a human) n First human was a 14 year old boy who weighed 75 pounds and was a 2 year diabetic and was on the verge of death. n The test was successful

Ways Insulin is Made in the Body n Food being absorbed into the bloodstream. n Artificial insulin being inserted into the bloodstream.

Ways Insulin is Put into the Body n Never taken by mouth because stomach acid deteriorates insulin. n Insulin shots, insulin pens, jet injectors, and insulin pumps.

Different Types of Diabetics n People with type II diabetes produce insulin, but do not always produce enough. n People with type I diabetes do not produce insulin at all.

Ways Insulin Deteriorates n When it is swallowed because of stomach acid. n In extreme cold temperatures (under 15 degrees Fahrenheit.) n In extreme hot temperatures (over 85 degrees Fahrenheit)

Places to Insert Insulin n Abdomen, outer upper arms, thighs or hips. n Common because there is lots of blood and muscle, and glucose is in blood and muscle

Somogyi Effect n A disorder caused by too much insulin in the body n Caused by your liver releasing stored insulin all at one time and your blood sugar goes too high.

Insulin Types n More than 20 types available. n Three steps in choosing the right type. n The onset time n The peak n The duration time

About Me n My name is Helen and I’m 12 years old and I like Wake Forest. n I play basketball and go to Hanes Middle School and I love ice cream.
