Our School Mission Statement John Glenn is a community of LEADers. We: Love learning, Excel in all we do, Achieve goals together, Do what is right!

Classroom Mission Statements Each class was encouraged to create their own mission statements. These are kept in the students’ Leadership Binders and revisited often.

7 Habits Everyday ● Easy to incorporate into daily lessons ● Becomes a part of students’ and teachers’ language ●What do leaders look like? ○ hallway ○ restroom ○ lunchroom

Leadership Theme Throughout

Leadership Roles ● Students learn leadership skills through classroom roles ● Roles include: electrician, supply assistant, athletic director, greeter

Leadership Notebooks ● Every classroom is utilizing leadership notebooks. ●Students are tracking their behavior as well as academic progress. ● Data collected allows students to become vested in their learning leadership roles.

★ This year the Rocket Reporter has been taken over by 5th grade students. They interview students and write articles about what is going on in our school. Students are part of the entire process: interviewing, writing articles, designing newsletter, and publishing it each month. Rocket Reporter Safety Patrol 4th and 5th grade students meet, greet, and open car doors for students. This helps with the traffic flow in the morning.

Student Led Morning Meeting Students from all grade levels have the opportunity to lead the morning meeting. Public speaking practice is done through daily announcements, the pledge, and birthday recognitions.

What Changes We’ve Seen? ● Increased student initiatives for helping the community. ● Use of good manners has increased. ● Discipline issues decreased ● Life skills being used on a daily basis- eye contact, greetings, etc. ● Parents have seen positive effects at home.

Where We Are Going... ★ Leadership Day on April 15, 2015 ★ Lighthouse Team attend 2015 Missouri Leader in Me Symposium in St. Louis ★ Continued Training Next Summer

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. - - Oliver Wendell Holmes
