The 4 Cs of 21 st century skills

C ollaboration

C ommunication

C reativity

C ritical thinking

Why are 21 st century skills important?

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

Because…

We need more and better skilled graduates entering the work force. To accommodate a fast-moving global economy and adapt to technology, we need 21st century skills, yet we´re not getting them in school. 013 study by the polling firm Gallup Inc.

Now 4C´s: c ollaboration c ommunication (global) c reativity c ritical thinking + cross-cultural understanding

Today 80% of executives in a survey believe fusing the “Three Rs” and “Four Cs” will ensure that students are better prepared to enter the workforce. The importance of Teaching the 4c´s An Educator´s Guide to “Four Cs.” National Education Association

They positively affect students´ long-term college and work-life success. They help students produce high quality work in their work lives. They help students process information and find ways to adapt to change, leading to greater success and job fulfillment.

The 4Cs in detail

Collaboration

Quotes ‘’Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.‘’ Hellen Keller

‘‘One of the keys to Apple is that Apple´s an incredibly collaborative company.”

What kinds of collaboration are there?

Kinds of collaboration idea exchange co-creation

Idea exchange 2+ people work together to exchange ideas _______________________ - listen - think before speaking - manage emotions - be clear Social skills

Co-Creation 2+ people work together to create something new _______________________ -respect teammates or partner -put egos aside -be honest but tactful -be able to be comfortable with chaos Social skills

Why is collaboration important now?

Because… Fifty years ago, much work was accomplished by individuals working alone. Now we are a global world with much work done across cultures and from long distances. Collaboration builds communities. Collaboration leads to understanding and, hopefully, greater acceptance of each other.

Connective creativity People take familiar things and put them together in a new way.

Communication is… articulating thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively through speaking and writing. listening and reading effectively.

Why is communication important now?
