What Do They Mean? Health – a state of complete physical, mental and social well- being that enables you to function at an optimal level in many areas of your life. Wellness – is another way of describing the quality of your life. It suggests that not only your health is good but you function at a high level in other areas. The essential components of wellness are: intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual, and social. Physical Fitness – the ability to attain certain physical attributes. The state of physical well-being that allows you to: Perform daily activities with vigor Reduce the risk of health problems Establish a fitness base for participation in a variety of activities

Two Types of Physical Fitness Health – Related: Cardiorespiratory – activities over a long period of time Flexibility - maximum range of motion Muscular Strength – force on a single contraction Muscular Endurance – continued muscle movements Body Composition – body fat% vs. lean body tissue Skill – Related: Coordination – integrating body movements Agility – change direction Reaction Time – time needed to start a movement Power – combination of strength and speed Speed – how fast from one point to another Balance – body control
