Technology in Classrooms Today LRC 320 By: Nick, Ashley, Valerie and Mya

In today’s society we are seeing children being taught how to use a keyboard just a couple of years after they have learned to handwrite. -Cursive Handwriting Getting Erased as Schools Teach Typing Over ScriptCursive Handwriting Getting Erased as Schools Teach Typing Over Script -So Much For Penmanship, School Replaces Cursive With KeyboardingSo Much For Penmanship, School Replaces Cursive With Keyboarding We are now seeing children learn how to type rather than learning how to write in cursive. There has been an increase over the years in the creation of software that teaches children how to type in a game like fashion. -Type to LearnType to Learn Children are not only being exposed to less handwriting but being taught in way that typing can be like a game, further increasing children’s interest in typing rather than writing in the traditional form. -Free Typing GameFree Typing Game Children Typing vs. Handwriting

As today’s society becomes more reliant on technology, many original ways of going about life will soon be, if not already, eliminated and replaced with new technologies. In high schools across America, iPads are being distributed to students rather than the traditional printed textbooks. -iPadiPad -Many US schools adding iPads, Trimming TextbooksMany US schools adding iPads, Trimming Textbooks With iPad’s various book applications, students are now downloading required readings and finding articles through their iPads rather than buying the books in print. -iBookiBook -Newsstand AppNewsstand App iPads Over Textbooks

More than before, schools are introducing a new class called technology. In this class, computers are the only device used. Students learn to type faster, make powerpoints and create short films. This class is seen as an enhancement of education because the children are actively involved in their education and the teacher is no longer the center of attention- allowing them to facilitate than bore the children with lectures. Because the students are making these decisions and working by themselves it actually increases their satisfaction with their work, therefore increasing their motivation to do well. dents.html Tech as a Class

Photography is a class? You designate a class for kids to go around and take pictures? No way. Photography is considered a visual art, a chance for students to express themselves in an artistic way. There has been an influx of colleges directed specifically towards photography, film and the arts. Students learn how to use a camera, the foundations of photography, the importance of lighting, angles and certain techniques. Photography as a class, other than an outside activity can be very beneficial for a student. prepare-photography.html Photography Class?

Audio in the Class In today’s society class ratios are becoming larger and larger in respect of students to teachers. Many teachers are finding it hard to be heard and are resorting to microphones. A new era in classroom amplification This allows student the ability to better grasp and comprehend what is being taught throughout the classrooms with ease. This particular technology is a huge benefit for students and teachers as a solution to the growing size of classes.

Cell phones in the Class In today’s society many students have cellphones which are built as a basic computer. Apple iPhone 5 Students are able to surf the web, take notes, , and so many other things. In the classroom it can be seen that due to the many uses of a cell phone, students will attempt to be on their phones more, however, not doing class related things. There are some teachers that have learned how to allow students the use of their phones to benefit their learning. How Teachers Make Cell Phones Work in the Classroom

SMART Boards Leaving Chalkboards in the Dust Today teachers across the nation believe that access to modern technology in their classrooms help their students build the required skills they need to succeed academically and in their careers. Therefore schools have been replacing their old chalkboards with smart boards. SMART Board, also known as interactive whiteboards, provide for a more dynamic and more efficient way of teaching. The boards let teachers and students share assignments, surf the web and even edit video using their fingers as pens. How does a smart board work? SMART boards are being used in more than 150,000 classrooms in the U.S, with even more being put to use in 75 other countries. US Schools SMART introduced the first SMART Board interactive whiteboard in 1991, and the boards are now used in classrooms, lecture halls, group meetings and presentations across the world.
