Planning for Future Ministry

Focus on Early Childhood

What is Early Childhood?  Programming for children from birth to preschool age.  Quality childcare with an emphasis on Christ.  Care with an educational component that develops the “whole child”.

Are we currently offering Early Childhood/Childcare?  Preschool—All day  Before and after school care  Summer Shining Stars

Preschool  Currently 4 classrooms 3 year olds on Tuesday and Thursday 4 year olds on Monday, Wednesday, Friday- a.m. 4 year olds 5 days- a.m. 4 year olds 5 days- all day  106 students 30-3’s ’s  Waiting list of 18 to 20 in past three years

Before and After School Care  10 – 15 students for morning care— 1 st year  65 student daily average for after care—has been growing as the school grows

Summer Shining Stars  Care for only the ages that we serve in our school  4 th summer coming up-has grown each year  Last year averaged 60+ students each day  Has been an outreach tools to students not currently enrolled at Trinity.

Why Early Childhood?

 Mission Mandate/Vision Equipping Families to Grow in Christ at home and go in service…

Why Early Childhood  Current preschool--50% unchurched— share success stories (baptism, new members)  Growth in EC positions us to fill our Kindergarten classrooms  Demonstrated need in the community— working parents

Feasibility Study  Daedelus Research –Patrick Rochford Approved by Leadership Team and Board of Directors Funded with special funds Review of data sources(national, state, regional, local) Examination of local market for EC

Feasibility --Findings  Need for quality care in the QCA  Demographic and economic indicators point to success.  Trinity’s location is one of the busiest in the community—numerous benefits.  Parents are looking for “one-stop” for their children.  Did not find support for off-campus development.  Emphasis must be on developing a 5-star program.

Future Possibilities…

6 Flexible Early Childhood Rooms New Preschool or Childcare New Infant or Toddler Care Large Motor Play Space

Rationale  Moving 4 preschool rooms provides space for our growing school and other needs.  Possible to eliminate all-day preschool classes—Offer a.m. and p.m. classes with childcare to cover the “off” time.  All six rooms able to accommodate any EC offering (flex)

Current Preschool ClassStudents 3 Year Old-TTh36 4 Year Old-MWF a.m.20 4 Year Old-M-F a.m.20 4 Year Old-M-F all day18 4 Year Old-M-F all day18 112

This number could grow based on creative scheduling that may be possible. These spaces would also be available for summer programming. (used 360 days a year)

New Possibilities-Childcare ClassStudents Infants8-16 Toddlers year old childcare These spaces would be used 360 days a year. These numbers represent the max that could be served at one time. Regulations dictate space and staff ratios per child.

Possible Costs  Classrooms square feet Percentage added for ancillary space ○ $900,000 – 1,200,000 (range)  Large Motor play space sq. ft. $300,000-$800,000  Total: $1,200,000 – 2,000,000

Operating Costs  Daedlus Research indicated that new EC start ups are usually at a break even point after 3 years.  Consultant shared that because of our reputation in the community, it is likely that this could be quicker for us.
