Vermason.co.uk / Critical Environment Ioniser Description Ionisers are useful in preventing electrostatic charge generation, ElectroStatic Discharge, ElectroStatic Attraction, as well as preventing equipment latch-up and safety related shock. Ionisation is used to neutralise charges on process necessary insulators and isolated semiconductors. Some examples of process necessary insulators are: the PC board itself, plastic test stands, plastic housing where a PCB may be mounted, as well as computer monitor screens and regular cleaning wipes. “Various feedback and auto balance techniques are available to ensure ionizer performance…Providing a sensor for each ionizing device can improve feedback control. Effective control can reduce the amount of necessary maintenance. (EN clause Monitoring and feedback control)

Vermason.co.uk / Critical Environment Ioniser Benefits The primary functions of ionisers are to: Neutralise process necessary insulators that can charge ESDS devices / assemblies via induction, thus creating potential CDM damage, and/or Neutralise ESD Sensitive devices (ESDS) / assemblies that are not grounded, and therefore are a floating conductor, thus creating potential CDM damage, and/or Neutralise insulators where particulate contamination can cause visual defects (Example – dust on plastic or glass lenses, attracted to / held in place by electrostatic attraction)

Vermason.co.uk / Critical Environment Ioniser Meets the requirements of EN Test method A.6 for ionization tested per Figure A.22 for overhead ionizers Emitter cassettes slide out easily for cleaning and replacement Multiple high output fans Overhead mounting Closed-loop feedback electronic balance system RJ45 port Data output functions Sealed plenum chamber around each fan Non-volatile adjustment for balance and fan speed Lockout key and distinctive front panel indicator IEC input and output connectors Flashing front panel display Made in America

Vermason.co.uk Operation After the unit is mounted securely and connected to a properly wired outlet, turn the key switch to the set position. The performance of the ioniser is directly related to the airflow on the area to be protected. Generally, try to use the highest fan speed setting possible without disturbing the operator or the work in process / Critical Environment Ioniser

Vermason.co.uk EN “Ionizers should be considered as a method for charge neutralization in cases where grounding cannot be achieved. These may include localized (bench) ionized air blowers, compressed air ionizers, spot ionizers, tape dispenser ionizers and total room ionizers.” “Air ionization can neutralize the static charge on insulated and isolated objects by producing separate charges in the molecules of the gases of the surrounding air. When a static charge is present on objects in the work environment, it will be neutralized by attracting opposite polarity charges from the ionized air. Note that ionization systems should not be used as a primary means of charge control on conductors or people. As with all ionizers, periodic maintenance will be needed to provide optimum performance.” (EN clause 5.2.9) “…ANSI/ESD STM3.1 set-up at 61cm above charged plated analyzer meeting < +/- 50 volt limit requirement of IEC : Edition ” / Critical Environment Ioniser
