Any device, gadget, hardware or software used by a person with a disability to do things for themselves that might otherwise be difficult or impossible to do because of their disability.
“AT is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.” --as defined by the Assistive Technology Act of 2004

Assistive Technology Act of 2004 Funding Department of Rehabilitation contracts with the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) to implement the program.
The AT Network exists to connect Californians with disabilities to the assistive technology they need.

Re-use is the business of accepting donated AT and Durable Medical Equipment (DME), cleaning it up, sometimes repairing it, and then giving it to people in the community who need it.
Examples of common AT and DME items distributed via reuse: Wheelchairs walkers augmentative communication devices hospital beds.
