Module 12 Installing and Upgrading to SharePoint 2010

Module Overview Installing SharePoint Servers and Farms Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Evaluating Installations and Upgrades Configuring SharePoint Operational Settings Updating SharePoint

Lesson 1: Installing SharePoint Servers and Farms SharePoint Server Roles SharePoint Server Topologies Building a Multiple-Server Farm Scripting the Build Process Scripting the Farm: Key Windows PowerShell Cmdlets Building a Multiple-Language Farm

SharePoint Server Roles SharePoint Foundation Web Application Server  AKA the Web front end, or WFE Application Server  Query Server (Search)  Crawl Server (Search)  Service Application Server SQL Server

SharePoint Server Topologies Single server Two servers: SharePoint and SQL Server Multiserver farms  Web Tier  Application Tier  SQL Server Tier

Building a Multiple-Server Farm Install SharePoint 2010 on server hosting the Central Administration Web site  Install SharePoint 2010 prerequisites  Select the Complete Install option Create the SharePoint farm Build additional SharePoint servers  Select the Complete Install option Join them to the farm  Select the correct server role

Scripting the Build Process Why script the build? Set up the inputs for PrerequisiteInstaller.exe Extract the Setup Config.xml file Customize the Setup Config.xml file  Set the product key  Set the SERVERROLE to APPLICATION Perform an automated install:  Run PrerequisiteInstaller.exe  Call Setup.exe with the custom Config.xml file  Build the farm with Windows PowerShell  Join additional servers to the farm

Scripting the Farm: Key Windows PowerShell Cmdlets New-SPConfigurationDatabase Install-SPHelpCollection Initialize-SPResourceSecurity Install-SPService Install-SPFeature New-SPCentralAdministration Install-SPApplicationContent Connect-SPConfigurationDatabase

Building a Multiple-Language Farm Build your farm Download SharePoint Server 2010 target language pack Install Windows Server 2008 target language file on all Web servers Install SharePoint Server 2010 target language pack on all Web servers Run SharePoint 2010 Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard on all Web servers Validate that the language pack is now available for use in the farm’s site collections

Lesson 2: Upgrading to SharePoint 2010 Preparing to Upgrade The SharePoint 2010 In-Place Upgrade Performing an In-Place Upgrade The SharePoint 2010 Database Attach Upgrade Performing a Database Attach Upgrade The SharePoint 2010 Visual Upgrade Performing a Visual Upgrade Completing the Upgrade Upgrading a Multiple-Language Farm

Preparing to Upgrade Your current farm must meet the prerequisites:  SharePoint 2007 (WSS or MOSS)  Service Pack 2 or later  X64-bit architecture (in-place only) STSADM’s PreUpgradeCheck operation Review the PreUpgradeCheck operation’s results Resolve any open issues Rerun the PreUpgradeCheck operation Select upgrade type:  In-place upgrade  Database attach upgrade

The SharePoint 2010 In-Place Upgrade An in-place upgrade targets the servers of your existing SharePoint 2007 farm and upgrades them to SharePoint 2010 Considerations Benefits Risks

Performing an In-Place Upgrade Test the upgrade process Perform the upgrade:  Run SharePoint 2010 Installer  Run the SharePoint 2010 Products and Technologies Wizard Visual upgrade can be run or postponed  Repeat for each server in the farm  Review the new SharePoint 2010 environment  Validate the results of the upgrade

The SharePoint 2010 Database Attach Upgrade A database attach upgrade takes content databases from your SharePoint 2007 farm and attaches them to an existing SharePoint 2010 farm Considerations Benefits Risks The database attach upgrade method is the only way a WSS v3 farm can be upgraded to SharePoint Server 2010

Performing a Database Attach Upgrade Test the upgrade process and SharePoint 2007 content databases Back up your current SharePoint 2007 content databases Build a new SharePoint 2010 farm Perform the upgrade

The SharePoint 2010 Visual Upgrade In-place and database attach upgrades do not update the user interface The visual upgrade does the upgrade of the user interface Multiple options for usage and implementation It is optional to run

Performing a Visual Upgrade As a farm administrator, you can empower site administrators to own the visual upgrade for their own sites:  Site administrators can execute the visual upgrade on the site’s Site Actions menu Or you can do the visual upgrade yourself:  Farm administrators can batch visual upgrades of multiple sites with Windows PowerShell and the SharePoint 2010 object model

Completing the Upgrade Configure service applications Update administrator permissions in databases (database attach only) Configure authentication Update links Deploy language packs Validate the upgrade

Upgrading a Multiple-Language Farm SharePoint 2010 language packs must be deployed to match SharePoint 2007 language packs To change a single site’s language, wait until after upgrades are completed To change the installed language for your farm’s servers, use the database attach upgrade to migrate the content to a new server using the new language

Lesson 3: Evaluating Installations and Upgrades Reviewing Result Data Troubleshooting Issues and Errors

Reviewing Result Data Log files Tools Check update status STSADM.exe’s LocalUpgradeStatus

Troubleshooting Issues and Errors Search log files for key terms Triage issues Test-SPContentDatabase Validate the end-user experience

Lesson 4: Configuring SharePoint Operational Settings Using the Farm Configuration Wizard Running the SharePoint Health Analyzer Configuring Alternate Access Mappings Configuring and SMS Settings Enabling Multitenancy Setting Up Timer Jobs

Using the Farm Configuration Wizard About the Farm Configuration Wizard What it does What it does not do

Running the SharePoint Health Analyzer About the SharePoint Health Analyzer What it does What it does not do

Configuring Alternate Access Mappings What is an AAM? Limited resource Usage scenarios How to create

Configuring and SMS Settings How the farm communicates Configuring outgoing Configuring incoming Configuring SMS messaging

Enabling Multitenancy To enable the creation of isolated SharePoint 2010 site collections for multiple tenants:  Create the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Subscription Settings Service application  Create a Web application to contain the multitenant site collections in your farm  Create site subscriptions through Windows PowerShell, which group together multiple site collections for a single tenant

Setting Up Timer Jobs What’s new for timer jobs in SharePoint 2010 Timer jobs definitions in the Central Administration site Timer job statuses in the Central Administration site

Lesson 5: Updating SharePoint How SharePoint Is Updated SharePoint Update Types Updating a Single-Server Farm Updating a Multiple-Server Farm

How SharePoint Is Updated Two-step process  Binary updates  Database updates Finalizing the update

SharePoint Update Types Build-to-build versus version-to-version upgrades Update compatibility ranges SharePoint update types

Updating a Single-Server Farm Schedule and announce an outage Perform a binary update Perform a database update Finalize the update Review logs Validate the update End the outage

Updating a Multiple-Server Farm Schedule an outage Perform binary update on each SharePoint server  Review roles  Plan for Web servers Perform database updates Finalize the update Review logs Validate the update End the outage

Lab A: Preparing SharePoint 2007 for Upgrade to SharePoint 2010 Exercise 1: Performing SQL Server Database Maintenance Exercise 2: Moving a Site Collection Between Content Databases Exercise 3: Preparing SQL Server Databases for Upgrade Exercise 4: Preparing SharePoint 2007 for Upgrade Logon information Estimated time: 30 minutes

Scenario Your executives have been hearing nothing but great things about SharePoint 2010, and they are excited to get a first look at what your current SharePoint 2007 environment will look like in SharePoint They have asked you to start prepping the farm for the upgrade.

Lab B: Upgrading SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 Exercise 1: Upgrading SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 Exercise 2: Upgrading Content Databases Exercise 3: Implementing a Visual Upgrade Logon information Estimated time: 60 minutes

Scenario Your organization has recently decided to upgrade to SharePoint 2010 for its new and improved social computing features. After the last SharePoint upgrade your corporate IT policy has stated that all upgrades must be performed in a staging environment before they are performed in production to minimize any potential upgrade problems. You have recently preformed all the upgrade prerequisites for your SharePoint 2007 farm and are ready to do a test run of the upgrade process. Because of the large size of your content databases your manager has selected to do a database attach upgrade.
