RTLB/SENCO DAY Ipads in Education Hildegardt Young 14/8/2014

Tablets Game changer in education (Logan 2013) For the first quarter of this year, sales of tablet devices rose by 147% Apple ipads remain the dominant player Early research indicates that tablets can have a positive effect on learning and engagement BUT REMEMBER…….

I C T = It Can’t Teach Ipads, laptops, tablets are excellent tools however… good teaching practice is still required and has not changed.

For Example Balanced Literacy Approach Allows all students to learn Includes a range of approaches – both phonics and whole language Guided reading, independent reading, recreational reading, shared reading… Teachers integrate instruction with authentic reading and writing experiences Students learn how to use literacy strategies and skills Then have the opportunities to apply what they are learning.
