COMENIUS Project The European integration process in English and art books 25/15 years ago and today

Introduction Well, we did it! We looked for these differences and now we will show you what we have found! Hi everybody! Have you ever wondered how our books talked about Europe 25 years ago and how they talk about it nowadays?

History of art: Greek art In our Italian books ancient Greek art was very important: in fact it inspired the Roman art, which is fundamental for all European art. In fact also 25 years ago Greek art was introduced in a very deep way, presenting the historical and social context too.

History of art: Gothic In the XII century Gothic art was brought to the whole Europe from France, following the pilgrimage routes. While 25 years ago books put the attention on the Italian Gothic, with only a little paragraph about European influences, nowadays it presents also examples and explanations of the most important European Gothic movements.

While in Florence the Renaissance was rising, a new artistic movement took place in the north of Europe: the Flanders‘ Renaissance. Their political and economic influence made this movement spread through Europe, characterizing this period with a unique style. History of art: Flanders

History of art: Art Nouveau Between the XIX and the XX century a wave of change overwhelmed Europe and brought the so called “art nouveau”. This movement was labelled in different ways according to the country: for example “Liberty” in Italy, “Wiener Sezession” in Austria, “Jugendstil” in Germany and Poland, “Modern Style” in England and “Modernismo” in Spain and Portugal.

English books In the past English books focused the attention most of all on grammar rules and exercises. They used to present them in a simple way without any pictures, references and enquiries about other European countries. Nowadays English books present a variety of pictures of real people and events linked not only to the Italian lifestyle but most of all about European and world situations.

English books Besides you can also find examples of how to face everyday life situations, examples of curriculum vitae and applications for jobs in a European and international context. Nowadays English books also present a big part at the end of each unit about the culture of English speaking countries.
