"Land of the Gods" Habitat- birds, wild animal and endemic plant species. Two of India's largest rivers- the Ganges and the Yamuna Forest area of km 2 : 65% of the total area of the state. UNESCO World Heritage Site in Uttarakhand -Valley of flowers National Park and Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve in Chamoli District National Park and Sanctuary- Jim Corbett, Rajaji, Govind Pashu Vihar. Economic Sources- Basmati rice, wheat, soybeans, Fruits like apples, oranges, pears, peaches, litchis, and plums. Total value of forest ecosystem services in Uttarakhand, India estimated to be US$ 2.4 billion per year

Significance of Himalayan Mountain System 15% of the world’s hydropower & clean energy 25% of the planet’s biodiversity 50% of the world’s biodiversity hotspots 32% of global PAs are in mountains Six of 20 plant crop species that supply 80% of the world’s food originated in the mountains.

Programmes, which are bound to facilitates mainstreaming various adaptation measures, build resilience of vulnerable communities and households.

 Evaluation of total carbon stock and annual increment for the state of Uttarakhand;  Monitoring the carbon fluxes of forests in various ecological and altitudinal zones;  RS-GIS analysis for the whole state to evaluate/monitor the carbon stock;  Ex-situ conservation of the genetic diversity of both flora and fauna;  Documentation of bio-diversity of various ecosystems and its monitoring;  Development of appropriate silvicultural techniques with climate change considerations;  Management of forest fires; and  Population dynamics and movement of wildlife. Strategies to maintain green economy by forest department of Uttarakhand

Challenges Illiteracy, poverty, male population migration. Okhimath Flood. Flash Floods in Uttarakhasi. Declining Fruit production-Apple, Plum, Litchi, etc. Developing infrastructure- storage, early warnin`g system. Promoting Green Tourism. Promoting organic farming (problems of agriculture).
