Why am I writing this?  Address the letter to a specific person  Highlight why you are interested in the position Why are you reading this?  Highlight your past accomplishments  Include two or three points from your resume that align with the responsibilities of the position Now what?  Express your willingness to provide more information if desired  Provide contact information  Include a follow up date  Thank the individual for his/her time and consideration

 Prove to the employer you are worthy of an interview  Focus on your strengths and accomplishments  Target qualifications to each job you are applying  Keep content concise & easy to read  Arrange experience in chronological order  Keep to one page; only expand to a second page if absolutely necessary
