Welcome to the Year 10 Parent Learning Evening

Students have started a course where they will have the chance to take their final exams as early as November 2013 (year 11) depending on their progress (and the government!). They are not taking any external module exams during year 10. However, to help students do their best in external exams when they get to them they will be following a modular scheme of work with regular assessments to check how well they are doing. There will also be a mock exam at the end of the year. The first assessment is w/c 26 th November 2012.

There are 6 classes in year 10 – 2 are starting with higher tier and 4 are starting with foundation tier. This is flexible depending on how the classes progress. There will be regular set reviews after each assessment to ensure students are studying GCSE Maths at the correct level Hard work during year 10 will pay off!!

Homework Regular homework will be set using MyMaths to help practice classwork. This can also be used to revise for each assessment. Students should make sure they try their best with homework. They should complete a task at least twice to try and get green. Don’t forget they can also work through the lesson to help. If you can’t get on a computer at home then the library is available.

What you can do to help….. Make sure your child has access to a scientific calculator at home to help with homework / revision. We recommend Casio FX 83/85. We sell calculators for £4. Encourage your child to regularly use Mathswatch to revise the topics they are studying in class either on the G2L or using the CD. Homework will be set regularly using MyMaths. Please encourage your child to complete this to the best of their ability. Ask them to explain what they are learning and how they are completing their homework or revision

There is more information available on the Edexcel website (our exam board)
