Developmental Screening May 29, 2014

Background BC & IH focus on ECD Examined evidence & selected ASQ Engaging for parents/caregivers Completed in minutes Standardized screening tool Low literacy Many IH partners use ASQ Translations available

Engaging Parents in Developmental Screening Parents know their children and are reservoirs of rich information about their children Parental involvement reduces costs Screening may become an interactive teaching tool for parents and staff Screening provides a consistent structure for observations, reports, communication about child development with parents

Introducing ASQ in IH Started with a pilot and evaluation (2005) IH rollout and evaluation (2008) Recommendation: add 18 months- developmental surveillance strategy (not implemented)

Developmental Screening in IH Child Health Clinic Part of routine developmental child screening at 6 months A universal approach to ECD Family Health Program For use with selected families/children as part of home visiting program

ASQ Documentation in Panorama ASQ completed at 6 month Child Health Clinic or if parent voices concern Actual scores are documented as well as interpretation score value Development Status documented with either Observe, Refer or Under Continuing Care will create a focus area that will display on client summary page for PHNs to view without going into the ASQ documentation screen
