Outline of Presentation Chapter Backgrounds Challenges Solutions Chapter Accomplishments Discussion- How we can strengthen each our chapters by addressing these challenges.

Background- South Florida 400 Alumni in South Florida area 1 Event was held in 2001 with 40 alumni in attendance No money was raised for the chapter or the scholarship fund Acquired the chapter as follows:

Defined the following chapter objective for the year: Determined leadership roles and responsibilities Held events to meet objectives and goals which included: Chapter kick off dinner at Buca di Beppos Winemakers Dinner Holiday Brunch onboard Celebrity Cruises Millenium 2 informal happy hours Background- South Florida Creating awareness and excitement of the chapters Motivating alumni to become involved in the chapters To build a foundation by: Established the chapter as follows:

Background- San Diego Acquired the chapter as follows: 100 members in San Diego County Took over from co-Presidents in mid-2001 $500 in the chapter’s account All events included Cornell Club of San Diego

Objectives Increasing alumni participation and involvement Formalizing chapter structure and procedures Strengthening ties with the Hotel School Becoming more involved in the local community Solidified the chapter by establishing the following objectives: Stabilized the chapter as follows: Established a Board and an Alumni Advisory Group Board- alums that were willing to give time Advisors- prominent alums that could help us network Held 2 current student receptions and 4 alumni events Held first Hotelie-only event Cleansed the alumni database

Accommodating spread out alumni Engaging widespread age groups Determining types of events Determining pricing of events Promoting events Maintaining a clean alumni database Communicating with the chapter, other chapters and the Hotel School Establishing contacts Acquiring experience Aligning with other CHS chapter and the Cornell ClubChallenges

ChallengesSolutions Spread out alumni Recent vs. past alumni Programming Pricing Communication Event Promotions Contacts Experience Aligning w/CHS and Cornell chapters Held events at mid points and weekends. Held events on weekends. Planned events to meet chapter objectives. Made it affordable with a built in cushion to raise money for the chapter. Registered events with the alumni office. Used mainly to lower postage expenses. Met alumni at events, used Phil Miller as a reference. Established an advisory board or person to use as points of reference. Welcomed any alums to CHS events, collaborated with Cornell Club on events.

Accomplishments $ 2000 was raised for the chapter with $800 being donated to the South Florida Hotel Scholarship Fund 100 alumni attended this years events 15 % attended more than one event South Florida San Diego Established Board and Alumni Advisory Group Increased alumni attendance by 50% at events –This equals 30% of the chapter –33% of the active alumni attended more than one event 20 alumni attended the first independent CHS event
