What is Movie Maker? Windows Movie Maker 2.1 makes home movies amazingly fun. With Movie Maker 2.1, you can create, edit, and share your home movies right on your computer. Build your movie with a few simple drag-and-drops. Delete bad shots and include only the best scenes. Then share your movie via the Web, , or CD. Using third-party software you can even take movies you've made and turn them into DVDs. You can also save your movie back to the video tape in your camera to play back on a TV or on the camera itself Source for this information:

How Can YOU Use It??? Present Course material! Add pictures from a variety of sources. Students, Parents, and Admin., can hear class materials, both present and future! Special needs students! Absent students! Add to web site! Kids can put together presentations, don’t have to use same ole, same ole… The can make lessons visual, hands-on and fun! They can be creative, tell stories, be artistic!

Getting Started! To locate Windows Movie Maker on your computer, you are going to: – Go to desktop – Click start – Click All Programs – Click Windows Movie Maker – This will automatically open a blank presentation for you! – A helpful site for beginners below!

Views Show Timeline – Great for viewing your pictures and text – Easier to see transitions – Easy to import pictures Show Story Board – Allows you to see how long your movie is – Allows you to see how long each slide is – Allows you to view audio, music, and title overlay – Best view for editing! – Really, the views are the same… it is your preference!

Inserting a Title Slide You want to be looking on the left of the screen to see the Movie Tasks task pane. Click edit movie Click make titles or credits Click title at the beginning of the movie A double dialog box will appear Enter the text you want to appear on the slide – Note that there are two sections for entering text. In the lower box, the text typed will appear much smaller on your slide and will be below the first section of text you enter. It will look similar to a title slide in a PowerPoint presentation. When finished, click, done, add title to the movie!

Editing Text on a Slide After typing desired text, look below the text box, it says… more options. There are two options highlighted in blue. change the title animation & change the text and font color

change the title animation Allows you to add animation to your text when playing your movie. A Name and Description dialog box will appear after clicking the link. Scroll down inside the dialog box and click the options to choose one you like. The slide will show on the right of the screen with the effect you have clicked, allowing you to see what the animated text will look like in your movie. When you find one you like, be sure it is selected, then click done. If you choose to have none, simply click cancel.

change the text and font color Allows you to edit the text in your movie slides. After clicking the link, options will appear look similar to a Microsoft Word editing toolbar. Here, you are able to change the style, color, size, transparency, and position of text on your slides. The slide will show on the right of the screen with the changes you have made, allowing you to see what the text will look like in your movie. When you are satisfied with your changes, click done. If you decide that you don’t want to have any changes, simply click cancel.

Other Text Options As well as adding a title at the beginning of a movie, you can add: a Title before the selected clip a Title on the selected clip a Title after the selected clip Credits at the end… All of these options are very similar to adding a title at the beginning of a movie!

Importing Pictures The Pictures are the basis of your movie and help you to tell a story. Be careful with copyright! Choose Show timeline view Click Capture Video in the Movie Tasks task pane Click Import pictures Import file dialog box comes up, locate desired file Select file, click Import The File (picture) will appear in your Movie Maker file working area. Click on picture, drag it to an empty box in the storyboard at the bottom of the screen, release mouse. To move that picture: In show timeline view, click, hold, and drag picture to desired area. To choose and modify show time: In show storyboard view, click, hold, and drag picture to desired length. The length will show directly above the pictures in this view!

View Video Effects Movie Tasks task pane: Click Edit Movie Click View Video Effects Effects appear in Your Movie Maker Working Area, effects are both written and visual (box)… To view an effect, click a visual (box) The area on the right will show you what a graphic with that effect will look like with that effect. To add effect: Click visual (box), hold, and drag onto desired storyboard area. – Can be a picture or a title slide, and you can add more than one effect! Push play arrow to review effect or movie To remove effects, right click, delete effects!

View Video Transitions Movie Tasks task pane: Click Edit Movie Click View Video Transitions Transitions appear in Your Movie Maker Working Area, transitions are both written and visual (box)… To view a transition, click a visual (box) The area on the right will show you what a graphic with that transition will look like if you push the play arrow. To add transition: Click visual (box), hold, and drag onto desired storyboard area. – Can be on a picture, title slide, or an in-between transition! Push play arrow to review transition or movie To remove effects, right click on desired area, choose delete effects!

Final Editing! Making text changes to a title slide you have already worked on: Right click on the slide Click edit title Make desired changes, when finished, Click done… If editing text that is on a picture, you must be in show storyboard view. Right click the slide in the title overlay area Click edit title Make changes, click done when finished… For all other editing, refer to Movie Tasks task pane on the left of the screen, or right click in the area you want to edit. An editing tool box will come up for you... You can add effects, change volume, select, cut, paste, delete, etc. Don’t we Love “Right Click?”

Importing Voice (Audacity File) Movie Tasks task pane: Click Capture Video Click Import audio or music Import file dialog box comes up, locate desired file Select file, click Import File will come up in the working area of your Movie Maker file Be sure to be in Show Storyboard view Click, hold, drag, and release file into the Audio/Music area of the timeline Timeline will show you how long voice recording is You may move voice file by clicking, holding, and dragging the voice file in that timeline area. Pictures will have to be stretched out to match the length of voice in order to edit and complete your movie! Note…More than one voice file, or music can be added to Movie Maker Project!

Saving Your Movie! When your movie looks just the way you want it… be sure to review! Go to the top toolbar… Click File Click Save Project As Create a Filename Save as Windows Movie Maker Projects(*.MSWMM) (comes up automatically!) You are ready to WOW your students this year!!!
