The survey of nutritional habits of primary school children in Croatia showed that - 66% of pupild do not eat fruit every day - 76% of pupils do not eat vegetables every day. The aim of School Fuit Scheme is to prevent and reduce obesity, to develop healthy eating habits. Authorities involved in the implementation of the School Fruit Scheme are: the Ministry of Agriculture; the Ministry of Health the ministry of Science, Education and Sports. They will - inform the public about the importance of fruit and vegetables - promote fruit and vegetable consumption in a simple and interesting manner - train teachers and inform parents about fruit and vegetables - educate children about agriculture, healthy eating habits

Osnovna škola Bartola Kašića is among Croatian schools that take part in School Fruit Scheme. All pupils get fruit regularly, once a week. They get grammes of seasonal fruit every Monday: - strawberries - peaches - cherries - plums - tangerines - apples - pears - oranges Fruit is washed (if necessary) and distributed before lunch break.

Doctors and nurses from the Department of Public Health monitor the childrens’ physical development, check their weight, conduct classes on healthy food, hidden calories in fast food, drinks, etc.
