Changing Attitudes to Health Bodystat® Body Composition & Fluid Monitoring Using Bio-Impedance Technology (BIA) Changing Attitudes to Health

Fat Weight -NOT total weight- determines health risk Bodystat®1500 BODY COMPOSITION ANALYSIS Fat Weight -NOT total weight- determines health risk

BIA Current Flow

Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) Safe, battery generated signal is passed through the WHOLE body and measures the resistance to the flow of the current. Lean conducts electricity far better than the body’s fat compartment. The Impedance value together with the details of Age, Gender, Height and Weight are used by the regression equations.

DISPLAY RESULTS Actual Normal Range FAT 22.6 % 20 - 26 % FAT 13.7 kg 12 - 16 kg LEAN 46.9 kg 45 - 48 kg DRY LEAN 12.8 kg TOTAL 60.6 kg 59 - 62 kg WATER 56.3 % 50 - 60 % WATER 34.1 Lt 30 - 37 Lt BMI - BODY MASS INDEX BASAL METABOLIC RATE IMPEDANCE

PRE-TEST PROTOCOLS No eating or drinking 4 to 5 hours prior to the test; No exercise 12 hours prior to the test; No alcohol or caffeine consumption 24 hours prior to the test; Ensure that the subject is lying down for at least 3/4 minutes with arms and legs spread slightly; Do not re-use or cut the electrodes.

Body Composition & Hydration/Nutrition QuadScan 4000 Multi-Frequency Unit Body Composition & Hydration/Nutrition

QuadScan Software Line Graph

Why Multi-Frequency? At 5 kHz current unable to penetrate the cell membrane wall = ECW At 200 kHz current fully able to penetrate the cell walls = TBW ICW = TBW – ECW ICW = 70% of Body Cell Mass (the metabolically active tissue)

Multi-Frequency BIA

Loss of BCM (5% loss within 6 months) is a significant contributor to the morbidity and mortality associated with wasting diseases.

BUT BCM not easy to measure Hence the “Illness Marker”  concept

Comparison between Healthy & Seriously Sick Subject
