2 nd – 6 th Rockstars January Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to compare and contrast. Students will also continue to learn and strengthen their vocabulary and grade level sight work skills. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to use and identify graphic sources to help locate valid information within a story or passage. MAP Testing in the areas of Reading, Math, & Language continues throughout this week Wednesday, January 29 th – 5 th /6 th grade “Lead to Succeed” Field Trip to BCHS Friday, February 14 th – Valentine’s Parties 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be learning different multiplication and division strategies. They will also be solving real-world problems using multiplication and division. Thank you for working with your child on memorizing multiplication facts through 5. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd grade math class will be using related multiplication facts to divide. They will also be dividing a 1-digit or a 2-digit number with or without regrouping as well as problem- solving. Please continue to work on multiplication facts as well as Compass Learning if you have internet access. :) 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd grade class will be studying about the Civil War and the events that led up to this war. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd grade Social Studies class will be studying about Canada's location, climate, and major regions as well as the differences and similarities between Canada and the United States. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying about Kentucky's years after statehood. 2nd Grade Literacy I can develop vocabulary. I can use my background knowledge and clues from the story to draw conclusions. I can use the visualize strategy to aid comprehension. 3rd Grade Literacy I can develop vocabulary. I can identify and use graphic sources to aid in comprehension. I can recognize the text structure of a text and use it to aid comprehension 2nd Grade Science I can explain how flowering plants grow and make seeds. I can describe how plants without flowers produce new plants. 3rd Grade Science I can explain how force can be measured. I can measure force.

Bowen Language Arts - In all my language classes we will continue working on opinion pieces and work hard to strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, and editing. Students will use check list to edit and reflect on their writing as well. Math - This week we will continue working with mixed number and improper fractions. Keep working on your multiplication facts! Science - We will begin studying rocks and minerals as well as the rock cycle. Language Arts 5 th /6 th We will begin writing our first Expository Essay this week. Ask your child to explain what that includes. Daily 5 Cause/Effect is our focus skill this week. Rock On! Linder 5th grade Social Studies I can compare and contrast the American and British forces at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. I can explain key factors that allowed the American colonies to defeat the British. I can explain the Treaty of Paris. 5th grade Math I can solve simple equations. I can solve real world problems involving algebraic expressions. We will be continuing solving Algebraic Equations. We will use the Hands on Equations manipulative as well as the app on the iPads. This is so much fun. We won't want to move on!!
