EUROPEAN FOOT AND ANKLE SOCIETY
CIP Europe 1959 to…… In the beginning there was CIP and there was Europe. We, Europeans, certainly own to the founders of CIP a great gratitude for bringing together all medical doctors interested in foot and ankle surgery in 1958. At that time it was the only organisation that was uniting world-wide people with interest in the field of footpathlogy, not only surgeons but also physicians, rheumatologists and radiologists and many more, for example biomechanical engineers and orthopedic technicians and shoemakers, from Europe, Asia to South America The presence and contribution of the European countries within CIP has always been very large. For the first 23 years the presidents of the society were Europeans, from France,Spain,Belgium and Italy. If we look to existence of CIP over the 41 years maybe we should better speak about a European supremacy. All except one president came from Europe.
European Foot and Ankle Societies 1993 EFFAS ESFAS But as the interest for foot and ankle pathology, and foot and ankle surgery was growing over the last 20 years younger colleagues became active within the field. Although in the early ninthies, even when telecommunication and travelling became more popular, a great need was felt to create a new, more active society within Europe to bring together and have a more lively exchange of knowledge within our continent. Also more possibilities for research within the discipline were felt to be necessary. And it was almost simultaneously that in Italy in 1993 two European Foot and Ankle societies undepently from each other were founded.
European Federation of Foot and Ankle Societies Milan, 1993 9 National societies medical doctors European part of CIP Dr. Zollinger . The EFFAS, the European Federation of foot and Ankle Societies, founded in Milan was constituted by the national societies of foot and ankle medicine and surgery from Europe, formerly united in the CIP. In fact EFFAS acknowledged itself as the European part of CIP, the first president was Prof.Dr. Zollinger The members of EFFAS therefore were the supporting national societies and every society entered with almost all its members. The statutes of EFFAS followed the EFFORT (the European Federation Orthopedics and Traumatology). Each national society paid the contribution to EFFAS for his members.
