Assessments, Grading Policy, and Homework Your Child’s grade is based entirely on their achievement toward the California Common Core State Standards (CCSS) as follows: California Department of Education and at APP store: Common Core 4= Exceeds the grade level standard 3= Meets the grade level standard 2= Below the grade level standard 1= Far below the grade level standard For each subject, Report Card grades are based on scores received on homework, class work, and tests. Please be aware that any missing work counts as a “0” until it is turned in. Students with a “1” or a “2”on any homework or class work assignment can re-do it for a higher grade. Any child with a grade of “1” or “2” in any subject will receive an At Risk Notice approximately 5 weeks before the Report Card. Homework is assigned every night in any, and sometimes in all subjects. In addition to the homework 20 minute reading is required every night. Students are required to complete book reports periodically. I will send Monthly Progress Reports home with samples of your child’s work. The work attached to these progress Reports is the work used to calculate his/her grade, so please review the assignments carefully with your child. These Monthly Reports will also include what your child’s behavior is and what they need extra help with at home. It is my sincere wish that the policies outlined will not only challenge your child, but help him/her succeed in the 5 th grade. With your support, I know that we can help your child today and beyond.
