1. Francis Bacon was born in 1909 in Dublin. Francis is a “English painter of Irish birth”. The style of work that Francis Bacon used was Expressionist art. He died in 1992 in Madrid. 2. Francis Bacon fits into this style of painting because he liked the difficulty and he liked to paint ageless.

3. We think that Francis Bacon liked to use a lot of expression in his art. After looking at some of his paintings it looks as though, he mostly used dark colors in his paintings and some times lighter colors over dark backgrounds.

2. Willem De Kooning started to use “biomorphic shapes and simple geometric compositions”. That’s when he started to look into abstract art. 3. We think he was trying to convey that he liked to use bright colors most of the time and he liked to use different shapes and sizes.

1. Mark Rothko was born as Marcus Rothkowitz in Dvinsk. Rothko and his family were Jews. When he was ten years old, Rothko, his mother and his sister went to America to join his father and his brothers. He studied the 'Liberal Arts' at Yale, from 1921to 1923 In 1925, he moved to New York, with the Art Students League, under Max Weber. He came to teach at the Center Academy of the Brooklyn Jewish Center from 1929 to 1952, and put on his first one-man exhibition at the Portland Art Museum in 1933.

2. Abstract Art is actually a very colourful style of art. Most of Mark Rothko’s paintings are just blocks of colours. That I think that would be why he fits into this style of art.

3. We really don’t know what the artist was trying to say through his paintings. Most of his paintings were really plain. We even had a hard time choosing some of his paintings for the other slides we did.

1. Jackson Pollock was a major artist in the movement of abstract expressionism. He in was born on January 28, 1912 and died on August 11, He was the youngest of five children and was American. Around the 1930’s he worked in the “manner of the Regionalists.” His life was partly affected and changed by Mexican muralist painters and certain qualities of Surrealism. From 1938 to 1942 he also worked but this time it was for the “Federal Art Project.” Quote by Pollock (said in 1947): “On the floor I am more at ease, I feel nearer, more a part of the painting, since this way I can walk around in it, work from the four sides and be literally `in' the painting.”

2. Jackson Pollock’s movement fits into the abstract expressionism mainly because he is an abstract artist. As you can see in the paintings on the left he expresses many colours and feelings. You never know maybe he was very happy or even angry while painting this. I found that art movements are almost “exclusively Western art phenomenon's.” This art movement started near the 1940’s in New York and carried on in America a decade later.

3. As you’ll see in the next slide, Jackson Pollock is a painter who loves colours. Though, in some of his many paintings there is a touch of black. His people figures are mostly black as well. We think that the colourful paintings are the nicest ones. They show so much feeling and impression in them. What do you like the best?!
