2 nd Round COT All Leader Call - Dec 14, 2014 Marg Faryna, DTM

 Aim to have 100% trained  Stats confirm – more officers trained = distinguished clubs = successful clubs  Area Governors responsible to get officers to training  Division Governors responsible for quality training events  Events should be BEST example of the BEST in organization, protocol, quality Club Officer Training

 TI website – from the home page, choose Leadership Central - required to login  District Leader Tools / Training / Club Officer Training What topics? What information?

 consistent, professional training  supports the brand – up-to-date look (colors), feel (current information) & quality that is consistently correct and reflects TI standards  enhances the member experience  helps them grow as leaders  Topics that make up the core of district-sponsored training should always include Club Officer Role Breakouts  The following sessions should be covered as well  Creating a Quality Club – importance of member experience, toastmaster brand, moments of truth, distinguished club program  Leading The Club to Success – motivation, delegation, coaching, goal setting, creation of the club success plan (best offered in 1 st round training)  Building a Healthy Team – identify behavioral styles, build trust (1 st round of training)  Enhancing Evaluations  Building on Achievement for Continued Success – reflects on club challenges and opportunities What Topics? What Information?

 Stay in touch with the coordinator of your event  December 1 – February 28  NO extensions, NO exceptions  Announce all dates, early  Offer evening, weekend options  Dates set – then ask the club executive to commit to a date & use their commitment to plan attendance  Division Governors – report attendance to Ken Tanner  Reports are reconciled COT

 Find your presenters early  Have a backup presenter  Ask presenters to use the information from the TI website  For 2 nd round, include time for group discussion, facilitated by the presenter  Preview the presenters’ skills  encourage future presenters to ‘shadow’ skilled presenters Presenters

 Why do I need to attend 2 nd round of training?  Why can’t we offer a Noon-hour session?  How can I get clubs to participate?  Why should we train 100% of club officers?  When do we train officers of newly chartered clubs? Frequently Asked Questions?

Why Attend 2 nd Round COT?  Get direct access to District Leaders  Share your own ideas and experiences  Network with members from other clubs  Build personal relationships with other members  Expand your network  Revisit the goals set in July  Introduce your mentees to leadership opportunities  Explore other Toastmasters roles  Club DCP goal

Why Can’t We Offer Noon-hour COT?  Not enough time to cover the important aspects of training  Not enough time to offer consistent, professional training that supports the branding, enhances members experience  Could appear to diminish the value of training, implies that it is “good enough”

How Can We Get Clubs to Participate  Ask them to host the event  Combine with Area Council Meeting  Create a potluck  Keynote speaker to draw the crowd  Special situation for a club that has a history? Please contact me and I will share some hints as to how to get these clubs involved in training.

Why should we train 100%  Why not?  Builds a stronger team  What would happen if hockey team didn’t train their goalie? If the fire hall didn’t train 40% of their team? If the television crew didn’t train their camera man?  It takes 7 club officers working together to direct a club to be strong

When do we train officers of newly chartered clubs?  As soon as possible  Sponsors & mentors meet with the club executive and conduct training that covers the responsibilities of each officers role  Invite the officers to attend district-sponsored COT so they can network with other toastmasters

 Responsible for June 2015 training  Record debriefing notes to share with incoming Area & Division Governors  Include locations, club history, challenges, presenters, agendas  Critique of what worked, what should be changed Looking Ahead
