Inflating Padding Antifracture Girdle ET 493-01 Senior Project Design Fall 2014 Stephen T. Calvert Advisor Dr. Patrick McDowell

Trochanteric(hip) Padding Must be capable of covering Shoulders. Sides. most importantly Hips A shirt/coat would best cover all areas Mostly handy-work, this has been contracted out.

Cartridge* & Trigger For the purpose of inflating the Airbags in the garment. This device must maintain a reservoir of pressurized gas. This would either be filled every so often, or provided with cartridges. One design employs a 12g CO2 cartridge Alternate design creates reservoir of air.

Air reservoir Components Air tank(PVC pipe) Valves Servos

Fall Detector Ensure the safety of device wearer by deploying airbag when fall conditions are met.

Fall detection components Arduino microcontroller. LCD keypad shield Accelerometer Ultrasonic Rangefinder Wires-etc.

Construction of fall detecting mechanism First sewing the sensors onto strips of fabric Pinning Sensors onto vest One range finder under front left pocket Second Range finder on back with accelerometer and microcontroller Tools for work

Tasks Obtain appropriate sensors(accelerometers, gyros, etc.)(done) Build experimental setup for fall detector.(done) Test fall detector, modify as necessary(progress) Determine appropriate trigger mechanism(purchase if modifiable version is available)(progress) Test and modify Build girdle with CO2 bladders(accounted for) Assemble all parts Test prototype Make modifications as necessary Write up on device

Schedule Current time October November December January February March April May Select remaining components   Build experimental setup Assemble the fall detector Write fall detection code Add trigger to device Add Girdle Final modifications
