The Law of Sowing & Reaping

V8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Gal 5, a Christian life is lived out in a battle field. Gal 6, a Christian life is lived out in two fields.

You sow either to the flesh or to the Spirit. Gal 5, we walk by the Spirit Gal 6, we sow to the Spirit.

Sowing & reaping is an immutable law of God. If we don’t sow to the field of the Spirit, We won’t reap the fruit of the Spirit.

You decide where (Spirit or flesh) And what you are going to sow, and you will either reap eternal life or destruction.

V9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

V10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. God directs you to care for those who are closer to home because they are there in front of you.

V1, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. A spiritual Christian will gently (fruit) restore the sinners to God restore means “mending” or “setting the broken bone.”

The church is not a court house where someone is accused and judged; The church is a hospital where a brother is mended and restored.

V2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. We all have burdens and God doesn’t want us to carry them alone. Christian growth is not to become independent but interdependent.

Ps 55:22, cast your burden upon the Lord and he will sustain you. 1 Pet 5:7, God says, “cast all our anxiety on him because He cares for you.” One of the ways God cares for you is through the brothers and sisters in the church.

V3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Some people see themselves as strong Christians and they look down on the weak Christians by condemning them.

But they need to realize that in life strength and burdens are not evenly distributed. Not all of us have equal strength. Not all of us have equal burdens.

V5 for each one should carry their own load. The word burden in v 2 means heavy weight. The word load in v 5 means a small pack.

Life in the Spirit is a life of mutuality in the community.
