CBS Goes Green Purchase energy-saving plug boxes and plug in printer, screen, loudspeakers, telephone charger, table lamps, etc. Install time controllers on coffee machines and water stations. Turn off the lights when you leave your office. Order tap water at the cantinas for your meetings If you need a new furniture – start looking in the basements Print on both sides of documents Throw office paper in a recycling bin (Bins are availabe at the clerks) Adjust the heat by means of the thermostat, not by opening the window. Report when the automatic light system or the thermostat are not functioning at savingenergy@cbs.dk Let the relevant people know when the tap is dripping or the toilet is running (DKK 100,000 annually) at savingenergy@cbs.dk

The Green Future - What will happen in the future? CBS Goes Green Launch of Green Ambassadors for employees Launch of Green Ambassadors for students Monthly green advice

Green Ambassador CBS Goes Green Background information CBS' ambitious green goal and the implementation of the green strategy are based on the condition that everyone at CBS gets the opportunity to contribute.   To make sure that information and knowledge sharing can be communicated to everyone, all interested staff members are invited to become a Green Ambassador (GA). What is a GA? A GA is interested in CBS, the environment and the climate. A GA is committed to trying to impact the local working routines and communicating best practice all over CBS. A CBS GA will receive a green goodiebag with: A sustainable t-shirt A refillable glass water bottle A GA diploma Infokit A list of GA’s will be posted on Share. They will continuously be informed of new initiatives, experience and knowledge.

Green Ambassador CBS Goes Green A GA can help by: What can the Green Ambassador do? A GA can help by: Installing a local recycling centre Ordering and installing energy-saving plug boxes locally (send an e-mail to savingenergy@cbs.dk) Placing cardboard boxes for paper recycling (available at the janitors' room) Making sure that the janitors are contacted for waste pickup Encouraging colleagues to order water for meetings in jugs via Spisestuerne Wearing a green t-shirt as often as possible Communicating best practice locally Reporting waste of water, windows not being properly sealed, etc. (to savingenergy@cbs.dk) Collecting and communicating new initiatives and ideas (mail to go.mo@cbs.dk ) In overall terms, being a green role model for colleagues.   Important focus areas The Green Office communicates knowledge of best practice We will be holding a Green Day once a month, where we will be sending out green advice to all Ambassadors, including background information and recommendations for implementation.

Student Green Ambassador CBS Goes Green To become a Student Green Ambassador (SGA), all you have to do is come by the Green Office and sign the Sustainability Pledge. To help inform and spread the word about initiatives as well as help come up with good ideas, all interested students are invited to become SGA’s.   What is a Student Green Ambassador A SGA is a CBS student interested in the environment and climate. A SGA is committed to having an impact on campus and communicating best practice all over CBS. A CBS SGA will receive a green goodie bag with: A sustainable t-shirt A refillable glass water bottle A SGA diploma Info kit / how to guide By being a SGA you also join a social network and get career credit. At the end of the semester all SGA’s will have to write a short progress report about the work they have done during the semester and they will receive a SGA Diploma for their involvement.   Furthermore SGA’s will be invited to the SGA dropbox, where there will be a list of all the members. The dropbox can be used to coordinate initiatives and share documents. The SGA’s will continuously be informed of new initiatives, best practices and knowledge.

Student Green Ambassador CBS Goes Green Vision: To minimize the adverse impacts of CBS on the global environment To become a role model for responsible leadership for universities and business schools in Denmark and Europe through our research, education, interaction with business and society, and the management of our campus facilities Mission: The CBS Green Strategy focuses on reducing adverse environmental impact by reducing energy consumption increasing recycling and reducing waste reducing non-green on-campus transportation increasing responsible purchasing developing carbon-neutral meetings and conferences reducing paper consumption

Student Green Ambassador CBS Goes Green A SGA is obliged to: Communicate best practices and the 10 green commandments Make others aware of and join CBSGOESGREEN facebookpage Collect and communicate new initiatives and ideas (both from Green Office to students but also from students to green office) Make students aware of the possibility to use double sided print Report if electronics or other things at CBS are wasteful (send e-mail to savingenergy@cbs.com) Be rolemodels for sustainability (change your habits) Report if you see something wrong or not working probably Encourage CBS professors to include environmental issues in course curricula Important focus areas Once a month a Green Day will be promoted where all Ambassadors will receive info about the particular green advice/commandment as well as suggestions for implementation. Once a year, one of CBS‘ SGA’s will be awarded a prize for being particularly green in his/her area. Once a semester there will be an event with further networking opportunities rounded up with festivitas where all SGA’s are invited. This will be facilitated by Green Office, but the subjects and structure is up to the Ambassadors. For more information, don't hesitate to contact the Green Office at go.mo@cbs.dk

Green Ambassador Pledge In this pledge I commit myself to making CBS a greener and more sustainable campus. I will work together with staff, students and faculty to make the green strategy become a reality.   I pledge to reduce emissions Turn off my lights when I leave a room Take the stairs, not the elevator Unplug electronics / use a power strip I pledge to recycle and reduce waste Recycle waste into proper bins Be conscious of my food consumption I pledge to use water responsibly Not to leave the tap running Shorten my showers by one minute or more Drink tap water instead of bottled water I pledge to participate Participate in a Green Ambassador workshop once a semester Get involved in initiatives to make CBS Greener Speak up and ask questions To spread the awareness of sustainability especially at CBS CBS Goes Green

The Green Commandments suggested by the students CBS Goes Green PAPER WASTE Double page Print Action plan: Make it default and not an option to choose double page print Information on screensavers Make lecturers aware and spread the word about hand in on double page print Make students aware of paper waste and get them to read the texts as PDF without print. FOOD WASTE Don’t take more food on your plate than you can eat Info signs all year about the benefits of ecological food/locally produced food Get a salad weight, not just a bowel or big plate Information about the importance of sorting organic waste

The Green Commandments suggested by the students CBS Goes Green RECYCLING Sort your waste Action plan: Make more signs Get rid of the normal waste bins as the recycling incentive gets remarkably lower when the ‘lazy’ option –the normal waste bin- is available Maybe more recycling stations around the cantinas especially SAVING ENERGY Don’t charge your electrical devices unless they need it. Don’t just plug in! Information: it is better for your battery and your device will last longer. Information should be placed on the screen savers and next to the plug ins on walls etc.

The Green Commandments suggested by the students CBS Goes Green WATER Drink water, not sodas and use your own water bottle Action plan: Promote it as healthy, sustainable, cheap Promote Retap bottles Take the vending machines down Get more water stations TRANSPORTATION Go by Bike Cheap and healthy You can have a beer and still ride your bike Introduce bicycling in the Buddy program to the international students. A lot of them are not familiar with bicycling. Free air compressors E-campus: sell/buy community: Bikes

The Green Commandments suggested by the students CBS Goes Green INFORMATION/KNOWLEDGE Report if something is unsustainable Action plan: Spread the word about savingenergy@cbs.dk mail Green ideas from students COFFEE Bring your own mug/use the same cup more than once Speak to the cantinas Price: DKK 2 for a coffee mug BUY/USE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS also on campus Bookstore purchase: recycle paper Recycled/ecological toilet paper Smart hand driers all over campus

The energy saving plan CBS Goes Green The main initiatives of the energy-saving program (potential savings in brackets):   Careful monitoring of the development in consumption via the new system (see above). Configuration of CBS’ computers to go into standby mode when inactive (DKK 140,000 annually). Optimization of ventilation system (DKK 200,000 annually). Replacement of halogen bulbs to LED in auditoriums and common areas (DKK 100,000 annually). Optimization of cooling system. Optimization of central heating plants and hot-water units (DKK 100,000 annually). Consolidation of server rooms and relocation to basements. Replacement of beverage vending machines.

The energy saving plan CBS Goes Green What can you do to ”green” CBS (annual savings potential in brackets):   Purchase energy-saving plug boxes and plug in printer, screen, loudspeakers, telephone charger, table lamps, etc. Replace the stationary computer with a laptop. (DKK 350 each) Use a flat screen for your computer. (DKK 200 each) Height-adjustable desks must be labelled by Elsparefonden. Refrigerators must be labelled with an “A”. Install time controllers on water tanks. Install time controllers on coffee machines. Turn off the lights when you leave your office. Use a few large coffee machines instead of many small coffee machines. Use a few large printers instead of many small printers. Adjust the heat by means of the thermostat, not by opening the window. Let the relevant people know when the automatic light system is not functioning. Let the relevant people know when the thermostat is not working. Let the relevant people know when the tap is dripping or the toilet is running (DKK 100,000 annually). 40 % of an office’s power consumption happens at night
