Technical Assistance Project Background, Status, & Future November 3 & 4, 2014 West Coast Ocean Data Network Allison Bailey, Sound GIS & Tim Welch & WCODP Project Team

Why? Goal: Increase discovery of and access to key geospatial information sources to support regional ocean management Many data partners are eager to participate but may be lacking: Time / Money Technical skills / Knowledge Infrastructure Solution (partial): WCODN funded contractor to provide support to data partners to develop, enhance, and connect metadata catalogs, data, and mapping services to the WCODP

What? One-on-One Technical Assistance Metadata Web services Data Network-wide Tasks & Training Best practices Training Documentation Network to Network facilitation Connect to other networks, catalogs, portals

Who? Survey responses from 15 potential data partners seeking assistance ( Summer 2014) WCODP team reviewed surveys, and prioritized 10 projects/partners for one-on-one assessment: Surfrider, Bacteria water quality data Ocean Protection Council – Topo/Bathy LiDAR Oregon DOGAMI – Tsunami Inundation Zones/Scenarios Point 97/Ecotrust – Non-consumptive Recreational Use data OCNMS – Oceanographic Mooring Sensor data PSMFC – Regional Fisheries data Quinault Indian Nation – Derelict Crab Gear, Shoreline Surveys, and Harmful Algal Bloom data NMFS & OSU – Groundfish EFH Synthesis data USGS – California Seafloor Mapping data SCCOOS – Oceanographic data – Shore Stations, HF Radar, Buoys

Assessment -- Preliminary Results

Next Steps WCODP reviews one-on-one assessments to prioritize assistance (Fall 2014) Provide technical assistance (Winter 2014 – Summer 2015) Develop and/or update best practice and training materials for network-wide training (Spring – Summer 2015) Conduct training webinars (Summer – Fall 2015)
