Pitfalls to Avoid: Strengths and Needs: Failing to be specific and weakening the assessment-programming connection. Failing to differentiate between needs and strategies/supports

Pitfalls to Avoid Annual and Specific Individualized Outcomes: Overlooking that Annual Outcomes are statements of expectations of achievement in one school year which leads to outcomes that are not measurable. Insufficient task analysis to ensure that specific individualized outcomes include all necessary components for achievement of an annual outcome.

Jack will improve his reading comprehension Dan will demonstrate knowledge of basic math operations Dan will apply addition and subtraction skills in problem solving situations with 85 to 90% accuracy by June, Jack will apply appropriate comprehension strategies when reading early level informational text 80 to 85% of the time by June 2007.
