Know the Computer Multimedia tools

Computer essentials

Hardware = physical component in the computer Software = is the programs or systems that is operater within the hardware Peopleware

Hardware

MOTHER BOARD Mother board is the heart of the computer. This component is the bigger part in the computer and every component attach into it someway. This is because all different component use motherboard to communicate and to work with each other. Hardware

CPU (Central Processing Unit)  Processes your instructions, performs calculation and manages the flow of information through the computer  Determine the speed by “clock speed” in MHz or GHz  CPU is the brain of the computer that put in to the Processor socket in motherboard

Hardware CPU (Central Processing Unit) Intel (Pentium 4, Celeron, Pentium D, Xeon) AMD 64, 64x2 G4,G5 Intel Core Duo, Core2Duo

Hardware Memory RAM (Random Access Memory) –Volatile memory –Measure in megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB) There have many kind of RAM - SD RAM -DDR 1 -DDR 2 -DDR 3 ( The Latest one)

Hardware Memory ROM (Read Only Memory) –Non Volatile memory –For save data –Hard diskHard disk –CD, DVD diskCD, DVD disk –Flash Drive –Memory card (MMC, SD, CF, XD, MS etc.)

Hardware Memory Size of memory 8 bits (b) = 1 Bytes (B) 1024 B = 1 Kilobyte (KB) 1024 KB = 1 Megabyte (MB) 1024 MB = 1 Gigabyte (GB) 1024 GB = 1 Terabyte (TB)

Hardware Connection Port to connect with peripheral equipments –SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) Transfer up to 320 MB/second –SATA (Serial ATA) Transfer up to 150 MB/Second (SATA2 to 300MB/S) –USB (Universal Serial Bus) USB 1.1 transfer up to 12 Mbps USB 2 transfer up to 480 Mbps –FireWire (IEEE1394) FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a) up to 400 Mbps FireWire 800 (IEEE 1394b) up to 800 Mbps

Hardware Link: SATA IDE SATA FireWireUSB Commonly use for connecting between Harddrive and Motherboard Commonly use for connecting between Electric device and computer

Hardware Graphic Card Chipset inside the computer to connect with monitor to show the output. Often on a special graphic card slot (AGP (Advanced Graphic Port), PCI, PCI Express) Also have the CPU call GPU (Graphic Processor Unit) Translate graphic and text onto the monitor screen

Hardware Audio Interface (Sound Card) Output the sound from computer Digital to Analog converter for audio Some can input the sound to computer (A/D Converter)

Hardware Output Devices Monitor –CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) Produced by electron beams sweeping across the inside of a vacuum sealed glass tube Connect by VGA Port

Hardware Output Devices Monitor –LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) Each Pixel will produce a Red, Green or blue color on the screen Lower resolution than CRT but for new technology are developed Connect by DVI Port (Digital Visual Interface)

Hardware Output Devices Monitor –Dot pitch is an indicator of the sharpness of the displayed image. It is measured in millimeters (mm), and a smaller number means a sharper image. Dot Pitch Approx. number of pixels/cm 2 Approx. number of pixels/in 2.25 mm1,60010, mm1,4449, mm1,3698, mm1,2257, mm1,0246, mm3612,256 1 mm100625

Hardware Output Devices Printer –Dot Matrix Creates characters by striking pins against an ink ribbon. Each pin makes a dot, and combinations of dots form characters and illustrations. –Inkjet Printer Sprays ink at a sheet of paper. produce high-quality text and graphics. –Laser Printer Uses the same technology as copy machines. produce very high quality text and graphics.

Hardware Input Devices Keyboard Mice Graphic Tablets Scanner Film Scanner Digital Camera

Software OS (Operating System) Windows (2000,XP) Macintosh (OS 9, OS X) Linux
