© Crown copyright 2009 Assessing pupils’ progress (APP) in science Slide 2.1

© Crown copyright 2009 Objectives To: make connections between developing of HSW skills and their assessment through APP; evaluate how a new Key Stage 3 curriculum allows for gathering evidence for APP assessments; share strategic departmental approaches to the implementation of APP. Slide 2.2

© Crown copyright 2009 Outcomes Participants will have: applied their understanding of HSW to the development of APP in their department; identified areas from a new Key Stage 3 scheme of learning which will need to be revised to support APP implementation; considered their departmental approach to the implementation of APP. Slide 2.3

© Crown copyright 2009 Since the last meeting Discuss in small groups: What actions you have (or have not) taken The role of SLT in supporting the implementation of APP in Core Subjects What has gone well Issues still to be addressed

© Crown copyright 2009 Task For the allocated assessment focus (AF) thread consider: what opportunities for assessment exist in your revised Key Stage 3 scheme for Year 7; the implications for revision to Years 8 and 9 and accessibility at all levels; particular AFs, or criteria, which could be more challenging and any training issues. Slide 2.6

© Crown copyright 2009 Please find the file named ‘APP Threads’ on the desktop of the laptop on your table. Add ideas to the appropriate grid for your designated APP Threads at what your consider to be the appropriate level, as per the example to the right. You can add activities from your Y7 SoW or new activities.

© Crown copyright 2009 Plenary – some things to consider What do I need to do by the end of this term? What change should I be able to evidence by the autumn term meeting? What support do I need and how can I ensure that this is available? What is the main issue I need to address in order to move forward with the implementation of APP? Use the template provided to produce a timeline for implementing APP from now to July You may like to refer to the handout provided as you work out your next steps. Slide 2.9
