Mobile Apps to Support Construction and Support Bridge Inspections | Mark Chaput, Michigan DOT Mark will be presenting on two initiatives where MDOT has implemented processes that leverage the use of Mobile Technologies as a means of improving efficiencies and cost savings. MDOT has moved to a paperless construction administration process called e- Construction and has shifted the bridge inspection activities also to a paperless environment. Mark Chaput is the Deputy Director Bureau of Field Services for MDOT. In this role he oversees the day to day operations of the statewide support functions for Construction, Pavement Operations, Maintenance, System Operations as well as the ITS program Office and the Research Administration area. In this capacity he has the unique opportunity to work with many innovative groups who look to leverage technology to improve their business processes.

Utah DOT Citizen Reporter App and Click’N Fix App Lisa Miller UDOT's Citizen Reporter app launched in October 2011 and has been well used by the traveling public, allowing UDOT an entirely new type of valuable data. UDOT plow crews are now using the app as well... giving them a new interface that is streamlining the way they do business. A separate project, UDOT's Click N Fix app, is also helping UDOT to track, repair and improve the transportation network based on feedback from the public. Lisa Miller is the Traveler Information Manager at the Utah Department of Transportation. Lisa works out of the UDOT Traffic Management Division and is responsible for all traveler information resources including the UDOT Traffic app, website, 511 phone line and Citizen Reporter Program. Lisa also acts as the Public Information Officer for the Traffic Management Division and interacts with local media during large scale special events, severe weather and for project updates. Lisa is responsible for ensuring that all traveler information disseminated from the Traffic Management Division is accurate and in real‐time as well as educating and maintaining relationships internal to UDOT.

Mobile Technology Changing the Business of Road Maintenance | Chris McCurry, South Carolina DOT Chris McCurry has worked with the SCDOT for seven years and is the Director of Maintenance Office and Project Manager for Mobile Projects. He is also the System Administrator for the Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS) he previously worked in Management and Support for Apple iPad.

Use of Mobile Technologies in Attracting K-12 to Transportation | Alice Grossman, Georgia Tech Researchers utilized cutting-edge technology to implement project- based STEM education with middle school students through multiple transferable modules. Alice Grossman is a Ph.D. student in Transportation Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology conducting research on regional transportation policy around performance metrics. She completed her masters at Georgia Tech in 2014 with a research focus in sidewalk inventory and quality analysis.

Mobile Technologies in the Control Room Joanna Scott, Atkins The presentation will cover the impact of mobile technologies on control room staff taking a user perspective, considering the impacts of new technology on the role of the operator, and how this might ultimately change the way we interact with customers, suppliers, and users. Ms. Jo Scott works for Atkins in the UK, providing consultancy expertise in operations, training design, and control room management. She has worked extensively in the US, including managing the State-wide Traffic Operation Center support contract in Wisconsin, and leading the development of Akins’ training and continuous professional development product (’CREST’) for control room and operations staff working in Georgia and North Carolina DOTs.
