Graduation guidelines

Graduation Guidelines Focus on competency-based requirements rather than seat time Provide students with a menu of options to demonstrate readiness Promote multiple pathways for student learning Reinforce the next generation learning student outcomes

Graduation Guidelines The Guidelines outline minimum components, expectations, and responsibilities for local districts to meet or exceed to support student graduation from high school. We find it helpful to think about them in two categories: Student Competencies required for Graduation Structures to Support Student Competencies

Student Competencies for Graduation Academic competencies to demonstrate postsecondary & workforce readiness Demonstrations of 21 st century skills Completion of the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) Align with the postsecondary and workforce readiness definition Align with Colorado’s Academic Standards, English Language Proficiency Standards, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) standards

next steps

Meaningful stakeholder engagement can be the difference between a good idea and successful implementation OR successful implementation at one site and scale throughout the district. It is one of the biggest potential liabilities in this work and it often gets short shrift. Stakeholder Engagement

Set key objectives for each stakeholder group Prioritize who to engage when Discuss how to engage each stakeholder group Identify capacity-building needs 2: Analyze & Plan 1: Identify Key Stakeholders

Strengthen ability to communicate Develop internal competencies Work on and with stakeholder competencies 3: Strengthen Engagement Skills

Identify engagement approaches and calendar Be clear how this directly integrates into the strategy Integrated communications strategy needed (face to face, web, forums, publications, and social media) 4: Engage

Data questions with all stakeholders: What is our work? What is your feedback? How can it improve? What are tangible next steps? 5: Report, Review & Act
