Rainbow Fish Facts There are 70 species of rainbow fishes. Rainbow fish are mostly found in Australia and New Guinea. They are found in rivers, lakes, streams and grassy swamps. In the early days rainbow fishes were commonly known as sunfishes. Fish stores usually sell small Rainbow fish that have not developed their true colors. A well planted aquarium with lot’s of plants make the fishes colorful. If you keep a lot of males together they will become more colorful.

More facts about Rainbow Fish If the water is bad, the rainbow fish can have their fins stuck to their bodies. Saltwater rainbow fish will be larger than freshwater rainbow fish. Rainbow fishes are split into three families. Their favorite food includes: Mosquito larvae, Bloodworms and Mysis shrimp.
