When we think of RE, we tend to think of Religion and sometimes ethnicity. Jobwise we think of maybe a priest or a vicar. However, RE has many more core skills embedded in its learning than just these things! What do you think of when you think about RE? What jobs include RE?

Here are some examples of skills developed as a result of learning about Religion: Clear & Logical thinking Critical thinking Literacy & Expression Negotiating Planning and Organising Problem solving Research Working to deadlines Respect for others As you can see these skills are very important for a whole variety of jobs that you may wish to do when you are older.

Religious Studies students move into a variety of careers involving law, travel, advertising, human resources, diplomacy, publishing, journalism, the media and teaching. Secondary school teacher Community support worker Job centre worker Interpreter All of these need an awareness and respect for different cultures to be able to understand, and in some cases, interpret meaning.

Charity Officer A charity officer works for, or is a trustee of, a charitable organisation. The job title can refer to personnel in several roles within a charity. In larger organisations, the role may focus on a specific area, such as project management, business development, finance, marketing, public relations, fundraising or volunteer management.

Advice Worker Advice workers provide free, impartial and confidential advice and information to their clients on a wide range of issues. Some act as general advisers covering legal and financial topics such as debt, housing, employment, welfare and education.

Counselor Counselors help people to explore feelings and emotions that are often related to their experiences. This allows their clients to reflect on what is happening to them and consider alternative ways of doing things. Working in a confidential setting, counsellors listen attentively to their clients and offer them the time, empathy and respect they need to express their feelings and perhaps understand themselves from a different perspective.

Civil Service Graduates joining the Civil Service Fast-Stream are involved in a wide variety of tasks, such as researching and analysing policy options, drafting material that will be used as the basis for new legislation, supporting Ministers in parliamentary work and the management of their departments and liaising with outside organisations.Civil Service Fast-Stream

Care worker A care worker can take on many roles looking after the disabled, elderly and children. Key skills such as empathy, listening to others and respecting others are all traits with in this job role.

Administration Communication is a fundemental part of any administrator job role. Answering telephone calls, being empathetic to others, organisation of paperwork and meeting deadlines.
