Symbol of Luke

Who was Luke? Gentile Christian Believed to be a physician and a friend of St. Paul He may have also wrote The Acts Of The Apostles Wrote 24 Chapters

 The Gospel was probably written somewhere in Rome(or Achaia, Ephesus or Caesarea).  It was most likely written in 85AD.

Image of Jesus “Savior”  Sought to distinguish Jesus from human Kings or Lords.  Used the term “Savior” to explain the Jewish term “Messiah.”

 Lk 2:  When the angels went away from them to Heaven, the shepherd said to one another, ‘Let us go, then, to Bethlemhem to see this thing that has taken place, which the lord has made known to us.

 Lk 6: ◦ “But to you who here I say, love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you; pray for those who mistreat you…”

 Gentile Christians  Drops passages about Jewish tradition.  Tells audience that they don’t need to convert to Judaism to be saved.  Omits Jewish words. For example, writes “teacher” in place of “rabbi” and “Lawyer” for “scribe.”

 Luke is the only Gentile author to write a Gospel.  Starts as a letter. Dedicates the Gospel to “Theophilus”  “Theophilus” means “lover of God.”  The writing style of a Gentile Christian to other Gentile Christians.  Only Gospel the records the story of both Lazarus and the Rich Man.
