Personality and Self-Esteem

Paper Hunt: Find a half-sheet of white paper that is laying around the classroom (windowsill, table). You need 1 piece BEFORE the bell.

Draw your self-portrait on your piece of paper. (Do your best! I don’t require out-of-this-world artistic talent. So you if you can’t draw…DO YOUR BEST!!) Draw some of your favorite activities in the background. On the back of your self-portrait, write the following: Self-portrait = Words to describe myself =

Having a positive outlook is just one of the signs of good mental and emotional health. Others include the following: -Seeing yourself in positive ways. -Motivating yourself to achieve goals. -Understanding and coping with your feelings. -Focusing on your strengths. -Having a healthy sense of humor. -Bouncing back from disappointment. Pg. 21

Your personality helps determine how you react to problems, new situations, and other events. Different people react in different ways to the same situation. Describe your personality. 4-5 words on the back of your self-portrait Pg. 21

Your self-concept is how you see yourself as the unique person you are. A positive self-concept is an important part of good mental and emotional health. Pg. 21

Your self-esteem is closely linked to your self-concept. Characteristics that contribute to self-esteem and self- confidence include honesty, integrity, and responsibility, and respecting the dignity of others. Pg. 22 Self-esteem: how you feel about yourself Write this in your workbook somewhere.

1. On the back of your self-portrait, answer the two statements that you wrote at the beginning of class. Self-portrait = (self-concept or self-esteem?) Words to describe myself = (self-concept or self-esteem?)

Improving your Mental/Emotional Health with Coping Skills -Motivate yourself. -Focus on your strengths. -Understand and manage your feelings. -Develop a positive attitude. -Learn from your mistakes. Pg. 22

Personality Test: Take the personality test on pages (Answer the following questions somewhere on page 26.) 1.Do you think this personality test was accurate? Why or why not? (1-2 sentences) 2.Circle 3 personality traits you agree with. Compare these to your list that you created earlier in class. Are there similarities? Cross out 3 traits you disagree with. Why do you disagree with these traits?

Personality Square Imagine that the only way you could introduce yourself to someone you didn’t know was to hand them a square piece of paper. What would you put on the paper so they would be able to describe your personality? Draw/decorate your personality square so that it reflects you. Think about colors, patterns, pictures that would describe you. Must be school appropriate! DUE: Tuesday 2/8

1.List all the activities/subjects you feel you are good at. 2.List activities/subjects you feel you are not good at or struggle with. 3. Why is it valuable to know both what you are good at and what you are not good at?
